Nokia CEO Jorma Ollila today announced that Nokia plans to phase out the standalone Series 90 platform, merging its multimedia and pen-input features into the next version of the company's popular Series 60 smartphone platform. The announcement comes just one day after Nokia announced the 7710 - the first commercial device to use Series 90. The new Series 60 will support a wider range of devices, from mass-market multimedia phones to high-end devices with touch-screens. Nokia will continue to license Series 60 to other device makers, and continue to produce its own devices using the Series 30, 40, 60, and 80 platforms.
