Verizon Wireless today announced the availability of the XV-6600 EV-DO PDA-phone from UTStarcom (formerly Audiovox). Now available to business customers, the XV-6600 is the first handset in the country with CDMA 1xEV-DO high-speed data capability. Verizon currently offers EV-DO service in 20 cities and 24 airports across the country. The device is a Windows Mobile Pocket PC with a sliding QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth, and 128 MB of RAM memory. Sprint recently launched its version - the PPC 6600 - an identical device except for disabled EV-DO capability. The XV-6600 is $549.99 with a 2-year contract. The device will be available to consumers in January 2005.
