The FCC recently approved the Samsung SCH-i830, the first Windows Mobile for Pocket PC device to include both CDMA and GSM mobile technologies. The device is based on the previously-announced i730, and appears to share most of its features, including a sliding QWERTY keyboard and Bluetooth. But the i830 does not appear to have Wi-Fi or a camera, two carrier-optional features of the i730. Like Samsung's A790 world phone, the i830 will be quad-band, supporting CDMA 800/1900 for domestic CDMA networks, and GSM 900/1800 for overseas GSM networks.

Comming to the US?

Sprint or Verizon?
The i730 is pretty much definite for Verizon.

The full model number of the i830 is SCH-i830, and "SCH" usually means Verizon.

I'd say this is almost certainly intended for Verizon. (But if and when Verizon decides to release could be another mat...

I understand that Sprint should come out with this phone soon. I can't remember what I last heard, but I think it was May 2005.

-Note the currently available PPC-6600 is available from Sprint and Verizon. It has many of the features that the i730...

Verizon World Phone?

It appears to me that Verizon is introducing another world phone, probably more for business purposes.

EV-DO / chipset

There's nothing I can find in the FCC docs to indicate either way, but I assume this supports EV-DO as well.

The necessary chipset certainly exists. Qualcomm started sampling the MSM6500 EVDO/GSM chipset back in July 2003:
