Sprint Will Officially Use QChat For Next Gen PTT

Sprint today officially confirmed it will use Qualcomm's QChat technology for its next generation Push To Talk (PTT) on the Revision A network. When launched in early 2008, QChat phones will be able to communicate with each other as well as iDEN PTT handsets on Nextel network. The announcement comes as no surprise as Nextel had exclusive rights to the platform and had been work had begun between Motorola and Qualcomm to integrate QChat and iDEN networks before the carriers merged. QChat has long been expected to be an improvement over Ready Link or other cellular PTT systems. By launching QChat in conjunction with its Revision A network, which has quality of service features and other new technology to improve speed and reliability, Sprint should be able to match the performance users expect from iDEN phones. This year, Sprint is expected to launch phones that combine CDMA for calls and data with iDEN for PTT as a stepping stone to this new all CDMA technology.

It's About Bloody Time......

This hybrid technology for cdma and iden direct connect should have been in the works since the merger happened. 😡
i'm tired of customers getting angry when i tell them that ready link and direct connect are 2 different technologies, and cannot communicate with one another.
as for the hybrids that use cdma for voice calls, and iden for data, this is still going to force customers to buy the new phones, which will result in a $36 upgrade fee, and if they get suckered into using their rebates, an other 2 year contract. ☹️

It was in the works, but in order to run Qchat REV A must be on the network.

The new hybrid coming out will have data and voice with CDMA and push to talk with IDEN.

HAH. You think that is bad. Our store is located in an area without Nextel coverage and people will argue with us stating we are one company now. They do not understand and get upset and think that we are just hiding the Nextel products from them. ...

In order to maintain the popularity that Direct Connect...

Sprint needs to pay attention to what made Direct Connect sucessfull... the fact that it was on EVERY Nextel Phone. Sprint needs to make sure that QChat will be on every Rev. A phone.... and make sure that 99.9% of their phones are Rev. A.
