FCC Approves Stripped-Down Sidekick

The FCC today approved a stripped down version of the Danger Hiptop. The model, PV-150, has a Sharp model number in-between the Hiptop II and the 3. It will be a tri-band (850/1800/1900) GSM device but it is not clear whether it will have EDGE or simply GPRS. It does not have Bluetooth, and may lack the Hiptop 3's other features like a camera and music player as well. Because most of the documents are still confidential, little else is known about this new Hiptop, including what it looks like and whether it too will be sold through T-Mobile as another Sidekick. The confidentiality request expires in mid-April, so it is likely this new device will be announced this Spring.

You are all wrong

This Sidekick isnt for T-Mobile. it is a GSM Hiptop for the other minor GSM markets, and perhaps AT&T.

It will not have a full browser, just a WAP browser. This is so Danger will not need to provide backend support to the carrier. The unit will also not sync with the Danger servers also. The only thing that will be provided are the core applications and whatever is available in the Download catalog.

Or maybe not. 😁
Nope, you do not know what you are talking about. T-mobile has already updated their employees when this device will be ready for launch and that we will be carrying it. Oh, and it is "exclusive" to T-mobile.

This phone is being striped down because by taking out the camera, MP3 function/memory card slot it will be able to make the sidekick more thin. The snap snots taken of the Sidekick Stratgy poster are also all acurate. Basically there WILL be a new si...

New device for deaf...???

So most statements are pointing out that the deaf community may like a device without all the goodies on a SK3 - where that may be true in most cases, such as mp3 player, speakerphone, etc. I do not agree that B.T. is only for hearing people. It may be for the SK3, but if they can have the SK sync to a PC via bluetooth, ESPICALLY if it will not backup infor on dangers servers.

A camera is sometimes a plus for everyone, so I dont see it a HUGE plus for the deaf community to lose that.

The 850 is something SK deffinetly needs to keep as i service an area that borders 1900 /850. the deaf community traded up all the Sk2's for the 3's when they came out for this feature.

All in all - looking forward to seeing if this is a sexy slimlin...

So basically...

...we know that it'll be a Sidekick without any Sidekick features.

I wonder...

I wonder if this will be a Sidekick specifically for the hearing impaired. That would be cool if it was more affordable as most that can't hear just need to text and don't need Bluetooth headsets or an MP3 player. It also could be a version for Suncom as they offer Hiptop's similar to T-Mobile's. I guess I'll find out in a few months. 😎
yay know i can afford a sidekick LOL 🤣 😎 🙄 😉 🤤

krum, you get a gold star! i didn't think of that, but it makes perfect sense. the SK is very popular with deaf people since it provides a hip, affordable text messaging platform (and it interoperates with every major messenger and TTY service). and i...
