This week at CTIA, HTC is showing off two new CDMA Windows Mobile devices publicly for the first time. Both devices will ship with Telus in Canada in the 2nd quarter, and in the US around mid-year. Both will sport EVDO Rel. 0 initially, although they are software-upgradeable to support Rev. A.
- S720: A CDMA version of the S710 / Vox shown off at 3GSM last month. Previously code-named the Libra, this small phone looks like a standard bar-style phone, but slides open sideways to reveals a small QWERTY keyboard. Like the S710, it will ship with Windows Mobile 6.
- P4000: A CDMA version of the Hermes (Cingular 8525), but thinner and with a spring-assisted slide. Available 3rd Quarter. This phone will initially ship with Windows Mobile 5, although it is upgradeable to version 6 if carriers choose to offer it.

Not Bashing CDMA Carriers or service.
I wrote a post titled Discouraged. I was expressing my disapointment on the considerable lag to market on CDMA Advanced Devices. I was not trash talking CDMA. CDMA Technolgy is the clear winner for clarity and technology. A CDMA Carrier takes almost every single award that there is in America. Some yahoos out in cyberspace always want to bash something. To them, I say find a better hobby. I was simly expressing the dismay of one who is a truly tech savy guy who loves his toys and can not get CDMA PDAs fast enough.
Well the reason why there is a delay with CDMA carries is that you gotta look at the market size for CDMA and GSM users. Obviously the amount of GSM users in the world definitely surpasses CDMA users (also the fact that GSM devices are far more flexi...

Discouraged
I must say that I am becoming increasingly discouraged by the lag that CDMA devices go through before they hit the shelves. We have heard rumors and seen pictures of the 5800 and 6800 for months. To what end, now we are being told third quarter. And we have to wait for WinMo6 to be on some of the devices first!
ARGGGGGGGG.
News Flash!! Current pdas offered on American Carriers are significantly out of date. The most current Pocket PC phone is the dang Treo 700WX. ANd it is just a dang refresh!
Let's get these in stores quickly. Lets see some Blackberry Pearls for CDMA. Let's see a variety of Smartphones, not just the Q and a Pantech phone you can not even get in a store! And a new Pocket PC? Where. the i760... when? THes...

While I understand your frustration, most of the cell phone yammering world is using GSM which is one reason that these things take so long to make for CDMA. And even then, only 2 of the 4 major U.S. providers offer CDMA which is an older technology t...

You're not alone, and HTC is aware and concerned as well.
During the HTC presentation I went to yesterday, they specifically said that their top priority for the Americas in 2007 is bringing more "parity" to GSM vs. CDMA products and the timing tha...

The Pantech IS in the stores.
3rd Quater as in...
Do they mean 3rd Quater for Telus? or 3rd Quater for HTC to release the phone to carriers?
HTC S710 aka Libra
VERY NICE! I want it ASAP.
Whoops! S710 was a typo. 🤭
It's S720.
S710 is the GSM one.
P4000?
The P4000 that they are referring to is the HTC Titan/6800. It looks like it is going to Sprint which is a very good thing. 😁
Correct. Like every HTC phone, it will have a half-dozen different names. P4000 is what they're calling it here, probably because that's the Telus name and that's all that officially public now.
Yay Telus!!!!
I was just saying last week that I wanted an enV, or something similar (a candybar that had a slide-out keyboard). Looks like they heard me.
Excellent news...
...CDMA needs these devices just as much as GSM.
