Motorola recently patented technology that combines a solar cell with the LCD screen of a mobile phone. The solar cells are essentially a thin film called transparent conductive oxides that resides on top of the LCD, collects energy, and passes it to the battery. In theory, the technology would allow cell phones to charge whenever their LCDs are exposed to sunlight. According to Motorola's patent information, black LCDs with a 75% let-through rate work best with the technology.

Good Idea
This sounds like a great idea, but I'm somewhat of a conspiracy theorist, when it comes to things like this. I just highly doubt it would make it to market.

So, let's see...
Built by Motorola, so chances of this technology being buggy and downright unworkable are pretty high.
And who leaves their cellphones outside in the sun?

never gunna happen
there was a report about a year ago about chargeing your phone in water and never happened
Motorola Batteries
Sweet, now the lifetime of Motorola batteries can die quicker that they already do! This is not a good idea.
