RIM Goes Global with CDMA + GSM BlackBerry

RIM today announced the BlackBerry 8830, RIM's first device to combine CDMA technology with GSM for global roaming. The 8830 is also RIM's first CDMA device with the company's new generation of hardware, featuring a thin design (0.55 inches), four-way trackball navigation, and a microSD memory card slot. Both Verizon Wireless and Sprint will offer the phone. The 8830 provides EVDO high-speed data on CDMA networks and GPRS data on GSM 900 / 1800 networks overseas. Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, media player, and a large QVGA display round out the feature set. Verizon Wireless announced it will offer the 8830 starting May 14 for business customers. Sprint will launch the 8830 in July, offering it with unlocked GSM so customers can use cheaper SIM cards when traveling, or the included Sprint SIM card to keep their own phone number.

Motorola Launches razr 2022 (in China)

Motorola has launched its third-generation moto razr (2022) foldable phone, but only in China for now. It's unclear if the phone will come to other regions, although the Chinese web site for the phone does tout its global network support with a whopping 19 5G bands and 27 4G bands.

Will the Pearl come to Verizon next month also...

Does anyone have visibility if this would be release next month as well... my gut says they would have announced it at the same time if it was coming... feedback please

Pearl is set to come out at the end of summer with Verizon. They don't want Pearl to be competing with this phone. That's what one Business Rep from Verizon told me. She has been right with a few other things previously.

Canadian Users: Telus to launch 8830 inline with Sprint.

Just spoke with a telus rep, the 8830 is coming sooner than many expected. It will be here sometime this summer.
As Telus always does, the sim is locked to telus for your number. ☹️

Verizon and May 14??

Its says Verizon will offer this phone to business customers May 14. What about regular customers? Why would they only offer it to business customers when they can make more money and sales if it was offeredto everyone.

GPS cripled for Verizon edition????

Google maps and Blackberry maps are great apps on my 8300 hundred series, but really want the full GPS that is on the 8800. However, from what I'm reading they seem to be dropping that feature on the Verizon version which is a same. I just upgraded to the 8703 before i knew the 8800 was coming out on Verizon so quick. it usually takes them a year before they put the new blackberry on their network. ☹️ Love verizon and not changing but sometimes they are very slow to put phones on their network. my one and biggest complaint with them.

So, anyone heard for sure about the GPS on the 8800 version for Verizon?

Verizon's verison of GPS will be available for this phone in June via software update. The phone is already GPS ready.

How much will Sprint Charge?

How much will Sprint Charge to use the CDMA network and use there SIM card on GSM networks, or will it be usual roaming charges. Also how much do you think this phone will sell for? That would be freaking sweet if you could use it on any network for your standard contract price and it would automatically switch to the network with the strongest signal.

To be clear, this phone and the Sprint SIM card will not work on domestic GSM networks.

Both are strictly for roaming on overseas GSM 900/1800 networks only.

But it is the gift that sprint customers have been looking for, and with the full keyboard with features, it makes the black look good for people who use their phone for things other than email.

For some reason, silver looks more streamline than black. Maybe b/c of that gray/silver trim piece from Sprint BB.
