The LiPS Forum, a group of software companies trying to standardize mobile Linux, today announced its first set of specifications for mobile Linux. The specifications include a reference phone design, address book with call enabler, and interface and text input tools for developers (APIs). They have also announced a second set of specifications will be available by the end of the year that will round out all the necessary elements for a basic phone including telephony, messaging, IM, calendars and more. Although the LiPS Forum specs are still incomplete, other manufacturers including Motorola, Trolltech and Palm have already developed and released mobile versions of Linux.
