Nokia Announces 3 New Mid-Level Handsets

During an event in Singapore, Nokia added three new mid-range phones, the 6121 Classic, the 6267, and the 3500 Classic, to its lineup. All three are quad-band GSM and can roam in the U.S. They will ship in the third quarter of 2007.

6121 Classic: This candybar is similar in most respects to the 6120 Classic announced in April. It has quad-band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and dual-band WCDMA 900/2100 radios and it runs the Symbian S60 smartphone platform. The 6121 also includes two cameras for video calls and the main camera is 2 Megapixels with flash and a panorama mode.

6267: This clamshell phone offers quad-band GSM/EDGE, as well as dual-band WCDMA 850/2100 3G. Like the 6121, the 6267 also has two cameras for video calling, and the main camera is 2 Megapixels with a flash. It runs Series 40 and has an improved media player interface. It comes in 4 different colors (black, orange, silver and blue.

3500 Classic: This Series 40 candybar phone supports quad-band GSM/EDGE. It includes a 2 Megapixel camera, MP3 player, FM radio and a large contact database of up to 2,000 names.

6121 vs 6120

i cannot see any differences between the 6121 classic and the 6120 classic. does anyone know what the difference is?

will T-Mobile release AWS version of 6267?

I heard from a rep that the first 3G phone for T3 will be a nokia phone, and also told me 6133 is near EOL, will 6267 be 6133 successor with AWS 3G?

Video Calling on 6267

The 6267 has dual cameras - one for video calling. Cool feature but doesn't the carrier have to support video calling for this feature to be worthwhile? Last time I heard, AT&T and T-Mobile (although this phone seems earmarked for AT&T) were not planning on going the video calling route. Has something changed their minds? I hope so b/c video calling would definitely help set AT&T apart from their competition.

AT&T is planning to launch a video calling service later this summer. It will require that both participants be in 3G network coverage areas. No word on the exact date.

where's the 900 WCDMA love?

the EC has approved 900mhz for WCDMA use now that most carriers are trying to shift the bulk of their callers to 3G. 1800 mhz is still GSM only -- for now.

i am not sure where 900 mhz 3G networks are live, however.
