Use a 3G Smartphone As a Wi-Fi Hotspot

New software from TapRoot Systems can make a 3G smartphone become a Wi-Fi hotspot, allowing you to connect a laptop or other Wi-Fi-equipped hardware to the internet. The software, called WalkingHotSpot, is compatible with Symbian S60 and Windows Mobile smartphones. It will work with both HSDPA and EV-DO, but will allow voice calls to come through while using the data connection only on HSDPA phones. A free beta demonstration will be available for consumers to test soon, but TapRoot intends to sell the software directly to carriers, allowing them to provide it as a service. It doesn't intend to sell the software directly to end users.

if i'm not mistaken, isnt wifi uses more battery then bluetooth? what is wrong with using bluetooth on laptop teather to pdaphone with bluetooth internet sharing?

well i was thinking something like this before.....awsome....it about time....pretty soon we will be able to do everything all in one device and the batteries will last days.....then the world will explode 😈

I have to say that phone scoop has always been good to me about info.
But on this one they came up slow. I have been using a wifi router that supports multiple devices for about a month.
I have an 8925 tilt with the wifi router and it works great.

And for what the person says in the other thread, Yes it really does drain your battery.
The tilt is known to have a short battery life as is, but with the router you can consider it NILL

What Taproot Systems did was allow voice to go over the HSDPA network instead of the standard GSM network... it turns your voice into into a data call into a voice call over the NE...

PSP

This is pretty cool because that means that now I can play my PSP online wherever I go, all I have to do it turn on my phone and there is a hotspot for my PSP. Awesome
