Sprint is prepared to announce a formal, $12 billion WiMax partnership with Clearwire. Under the terms of the agreement, Sprint will merge its high-speed wireless WiMax network with Clearwire's own WiMax network. The joint venture will provide high-speed wireless data access to both cell phones and laptops. The two companies are also receiving additional funding from several cable operators. Comcast is contributing $1.05 billion, with an additional $1 billion coming from Intel, $550 million from Time Warner Cable, and $500 million from Google.

Great move by Sprint

Reasons;

1. Allows them to focus on their core business, which is struggling.
2. Allows them to get more funding from others to help with the network build out.
3. Allows them to perhaps get a buyout from another company or PE and/or allows for future capital into Sprint especially if the new Clearwire would be successful.
CLEARWIRE IS DEFINATELY ON THE RIGHT TRACK GOOD MOVE FOR SPRINT

Crawl Before You Walk

Sprint doesn't get it and I doubt they ever will. Perhaps Dan Hesse will turn around the sinking ship perhaps not. I hope he can.

Instead of WIMAX they need to spend the money building out their existing networks! Things like WIMAX mean nothing to people like me who live in an area where both Alltel and Verizon have EVDO high speed data and Sprint's data speed is barely dial-up. Sprint's voice signal is horrible in Eastern NC compared to it's competitors.

Sprint should also give some of this money back to it's work force. The front line employees who wok day in and day out deserve better then the pitiful salarys they get.
Yeah... Stupid Sprint! How can they be sooo wrong! I cannot believe Comcast is contributing $1.05 billion, with an additional $1 billion coming from Intel, $550 million from Time Warner Cable, and $500 million from Google.

Sprint is way wrong :r...

Anything Google touches turns to gold. They obviously know how to run a business being one of the top 5 most hit websites daily. So I feel totally comfortable with Sprint doing wimax with all these big names backing them. Go Sprint! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Can Sprint destroy LTE and change the course of wireless forever?

Seems like that's what they are thinking. Its them against the world.
I am pretty sure they were thinking about this well before Verizon switched over to LTE...
