BlackBerry Makes a Bold Debut with the 9000

Today Research In Motion announced its next-generation smartphone, the 9000 Bold. The Bold is the first 100% new smartphone from RIM in over a year. It has brand new hardware, but keeps the bar-style form factor, QWERTY keyboard layout and the trackball for navigation. It features tri-band HSDPA 3G radios for international 3G roaming, along with 802.11 a/b/g Wi-Fi and built in GPS. Global roaming includes Japan and South Korea, a first for a BlackBerry sold in the U.S. A 624MHz processor powers the device, and it has 1GB of on-board memory, plus a microSD slot for expanded storage. It has a half-VGA display that RIM says is "fused" to a lens, making images and graphics appear richer. It comes with a 2 megapixel camera with flash and a reworked media player. The media player can run slide shows, as well as play movies. The music player has been enhanced with an equalizer, and it has stereo speakers, as well as supports stereo Bluetooth. Lastly, the Bold comes with RIM's latest operating system, which has a reworked menu structure and different look and feel compared to current BlackBerries. Pricing information was not announced, but the Bold will be available through AT&T later this summer.

why?
why will the only come out through ATT? what a monopoly!
gms is bigger throughout the world, so generally manufactures release gms models first, i.e., att had the curve for a year, and sprint/vzw just got it. if i had to pick a gsm companie in america to give it to first, it deffintly would be att not t-mo

I'm sure when Verizon get's their hands on the CDMA version of this they will cripple the GPS & Wifi then knock the camera down to 1MP for no reason.
...and probably only offer it in one color while every other carrier has it in four.

When are these manufacturers going to start shipping phones with QUAD BAND HSDPA??? Remember... Some carriers are going to be using AWS 1700 HSDPA. 👿

Yes. Verizon has an exclusivity contract on the thunder that will remain in place as long as the phone meets certain sales quotas while being distributed on big red.
Will it run Opera
I need Opera to use my companies website. Mobil IE ect will not work. Anyone know? I have an 8820 now and can not run opera. Mini version is not usable because it won't allow pop ups.

Wow, new specs
Pretty impressive... processor twice as fast, twice as much ram, a gig of memory, higher resolution screen. An upgrade done right.
The specs look nice but the size of the screen looks pretty small, if it was larger I would consider it.

i was noticeing a little bit of tention on here and thought i would try to get a laugh or smile out of everyone. i was on engadget and someone posted something comparing the iphone and the voyager, saying the touch screens are the same lol. like i said a lil off topic, but funny none the less. hope it made someone laugh 🤣

I've been a trusty Blackberry user for over 3 years now. Until last year, nothing can compare to the efficiency, ease of use, and symbolic upperclassmanship that my Curve and 8703e commanded wherever I went for business or pleasure. I've even gotten comfortable with taking it out and thumbing along just to show off. It just makes me feel good.
But for the last few months I've noticed less and less stares, even casual ones, when I'm thumbing on a train or sending out a message before a flight. The stares are going more and more to the uppity iPhones now. Those thingomajig toys with the predictive text capabilities or what have you.
The office where I work is running a test pilot from hq on the iPhones with the new push email. I don't kn...

Why on Earth would anybody want a touch screen keyboard when they have a physical one?

I was thinking about getting a Nokia E71 when it comes out but this is giving me pause. I've been an S60 guy for the past three years and have never used a BlackBerry. But for whatever reason, I've been itching to try one for recently. If I can get an unlocked one or if RIM releases the Bold on T-Mobile with the AWS relatively soon, I may have to try this out.
