Alltel Jumps on LTE Bandwagon

Alltel announced that it has chosen LTE as its 4G network technology. The company said, however, that it will be at least three to five years before the LTE network is built out and operational. This is significant, because Alltel--a CDMA carrier--is following Verizon's footsteps by switching networking technologies to match what will likely be the 4G standard worldwide. LTE is based on current GSM standards. It means that Alltel, AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless will all use similar technology for their next-generation networks. So far, Sprint has said it is sticking with WiMax as its 4G technology of choice. No one has sided with Qualcomm-developed UMB, which is the 4G evolutionary path of CDMA technology.

Good Luck Sprint

You're gonna need it.
what would really be crazy is if sprint gets wimax running and it actually works out. that could be very bad for the other carriers

Yeah they are going to need it cause they will be the only carrier with Wimax. All the major carriers can network together and impliment roaming agreements. While Sprint will have ...

UMB vs. LTE is Qualcomm really charging that much???

Interesting choice for 4G for most carriers. LTE peak speeds of 20Mbs vs. UMB with peak speeds of 280Mbs. Very cool that most everybody has agreed to make LTE one universal data network world wide.

You always have one kid in class that does everything different. But then at your reunion you either still make fun of him or your kissing his ass just to see how well he really is doing.Sprint I really hope its not a 10 year reunion. I could be wrong.

UMB dominates LTE in many ways. Without the support of Vodafone over seas, and the push for one data network.

Qualcomm, did you really price your product to high? You will have to really out do yourself to get back in.
Where are you coming up with LTE peaking at 20Mbs? At the very least, LTE is expected to peak at speeds around 100Mbs with further speed boosts in the future.

whats ur beef with sprint

I've been with sprint since 2001 and im goin anywhere, unless the really sell to Tmobile as speculated.. these are just questions not statements..but didn't sprint go 3g first? 1st vid phone? first non iden 2way(even though it sucked)? 1st for gsm/cdma phone(in us)? sounds like a lot of firsts...I've heard about dropped call issues and customer service probs(agreed on customer service)..but atleast they didn't sell a 600 dollar phone and then start sellin it for 400 just to make extra money(iphone/att)..atleast they don't only let u call 5 people for free.. don't be cheap and only spend 30 a month on a plan and minutes shouldnt be an issue..atleast they don't make u buy every single freakin song,wallpaper,ringtone,app(getitnow/verizon- no 3rd ...

Sprint is not 1st to 4G because 4G isn't defined yet. WiMax is not 4G. Yet. It probably will be once the definition is complete, but there is still a chance that it won't be.

Sprint did not go 3g first. VZW was first to deploy the DO.
Sprint murdered my father, and raped my mother.

That is my beef.

phonescoop the site were on says "sprint is chosing wimax as its 4g technology" isn't that what it says...I totally agree with a previous post..4g has not been established properly so theres no standard for it yet...but once established we won't know till then if what sprints doing or has done(by then) will be considered 4g...
