The Wall Street Journal is reporting that RIM is going to release a touch-enabled device. The touch-screen device, known as the Thunder, will be an exclusive to Verizon Wireless and Vodafone. According to sources familiar with RIM's plans, it should be available in the third quarter of this year. The phone will be able to run on U.S. networks, as well as on networks in foreign countries. RIM did not explain if this means it will be a dual-mode CDMA/GSM phone or not. The Thunder will be able to access 3G networks. RIM says it has worked to improve the battery life, browsing experience, and processing power of its devices. RIM did not provide any more specific information about the Thunder.

Exciting

Exciting news for verizon customers, GO RIM and Verizon!
Wow lol....Over the last few years Sprint has Expanded their network at a rapid pace, they are on track to release Qchat,Wimax, and have plenty of phones in the pipeline. I'm not sure what maps you are looking at...lol but their coverage is second to ...

Trade Ya

How about this trade...

AT&T gives up the iPhone and the MotoBerry Q (BOLD) to Verizon, and gets the BB Thunder in return.

Sound like a fair trade?
Trade: DECLINED!!

I love apple, but the iphone is overrated. And the bold is coming to verizon in 2009 branded as the "Niagara."

Real question is this...

Iphone 3G or BB Thunder?
...
Tough call at this point. Nobody even knows how the thunder will be (full touch screen or hybrid) Personally i am hoping for the hybrid, but we'll see i guess.

Secondly, that is comparing apples to oranges. While it isn't official the chances ar...

OUCH!!!!!!!

That hurts..... Congrats to Verizon for that sound investment!
Yeah. Very good investment. I read somehwere, though, that if VZW and Vodafone were unable to meet the quota, then RIM was to begin selling to other carriers. I'll see if I can find the link.

The definition of "Exclusive"

Exclusive phone (exception being iPhone): A carrier may be an exclusive carrier for upto 60 days on a particular handset. Said handset can then be released by all carriers after said exclusive period.

To clarify the point of this statement, and to enlighten the fanboys of the world, EVERY carrier will have this phone. Att, Sprint, Tmobile, and of course Verizon have already signed on to carry the phone. The exclusive is going to be launched with Verizon, yes, but everyone will have the handset in their stable.

If you seriously cant wait 60 days to get this phone you have 2 major issues in my eyes:

1) You are a spoiled brat.

2) You are unwilling to let someone else get the phone and work the bugs out for you. This is also known a...

Perhaps if you read the original Boy Genius report, http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/05/13/bla ckberry-thunder-the-touchscreen-blackberry-we ve-all-been-waiting-for/ you will read that he is reporting a lifetime exclusivity, now this is not set in st...

And yes, I did notice the sales quota clause so like I said, the exclusivity is not set in stone, but there is no indication that this will "for sure" launch with anyone else.

att fan boys ...

... will probably make it sound like the "Thunder" is old technology or the "Bold" is 10 times better.

Begin the bashing fanboys, begin.
No, but I am kinda jealous that VZW gets this and AT&T does not.
BTW, the BOLD is a Moto Q clone by the looks of it. We need to keep the Curve away from the Q, or else more offspring like this will occur. 😉
...
Its threads like these, that help initiate such "fanboy" comments. Way to help the cause...btw, this sounds like an awesome phone and I own a few AT&T authorized retailer locations. No need to bash a phone/carrier just because a certain carrier has ...

It's not about even bashing. From what I read from other sites, the Thunder might be a touch screened Bold with few updates. Nothing to revolutionary since the OS is still gonna be the same, 4.6

I was just reporting what I read, so while it's a good...

same time as bold?

now knowing vzw im sure they bold will be out way before the thunder, but still if rim says q3 of 08 then maybe by 09 we will see it. i just hope its as good as the other blackberrys
Bold will be out late part of the summer in my opinion.
If RIM makes it available to Verizon in Q3 2008, it will take Verizon 4 to 6 months to test and integrate it into their network (and customize the OS to VZW standard). So I think it won't be out until late Q1 2009.

Wow, for a phone website, you would think Phonescoop would show us a pic and maybe some more info.

Anyway, enjoy 😁
