Sprint Reigns In Data Usage

Sprint is updating its Terms Of Service starting in mid-July and will be capping mobile broadband data usage at 5GB. Previously, Sprint offered truly unlimited mobile broadband. Once the new Terms Of Service go into effect, users who go over the 5GB cap, or a 300MB roaming cap, will be charged extra fees. This will apply to both network cards as well as tethering mobile phones to laptops. AT&T Mobility and Verizon Wireless currently offer 5GB data plans, also.

i have confirmed this over the past 2-3 days with my sprint IAE his boss, and his boss's boss. they are reserving the right to terminate your service on PAM plans and aircard usage over 5gb/month. there is NO fee for overage. the only risk you run going over is getting turned off. you also have 60 days to cancel your aircard plan since this is a change to the TC's of your contract.
Just like Verizon, T-Mo, and AT&T. Sprint is now no different in their terms. Good by unlimited!!
T-Mobile's has been unlimited for some time now...
Both our Blackberry and Total Internet have been unlimited for some time.

No T-Mobile is NOT unlimited. Check your TOS. T-Mobile has and will cancel customers for using too much data. Read the complaints with the BBB. Sprint was the only carrier that was truly unlimited.
End Of An Era...What Will Go Next?
Sprint was the ONLY carrier to allow customers to enjoy their phones completely. They didn't lock down services. They didn't over charge. They didn't hide terms from customers, then cancel their service later (AT&T and Verizon). Sprint was the Cool Teacher of wireless carriers.
Now they are capping their networks. I understand why, but where will they go next? Will they stop allowing customers to use Third-Party free software? Will they end roaming altogether?
I could always say that by me using my Sprint phone, that I was using the Hell out of my service! Now I will have to worry. What if I stay with a friend and roam for the month, will my service be shut off? (AT&T) Will I have my service turned off for using too much data? (Verizon)...

CLARIFICATION FROM SPRINT CORPORATE
This was emailed to us to clear up any confusion about this new policy:
* The vast majority of current users (about 99.5%) shouldn't be affected. Whether it's the 300 MB roaming limit or the 5GB limit on total data usage, that's enough data to meet the regular monthly usage habits of almost all of our customers.
* Going over either limit will not cause a card to suddenly stop working.
* Going over once in a while is OK. We'll check usage using a rolling, three-month basis. Customers would have to exceed the limit in two out of three consecutive months to face termination.
* Initially, we are contacting customers first, to make them aware of the new limits and give them a chance to change their usage, if they want to c...

Sad to say this is wrong, as of January 22nd, we are watching everyone that uses over 5gb of data, there is no charge for data usage after 5gb.

And VzW now has it to switch from Broadband Access to National Access, meaning your connection only slowed a bit.

I used well over that a month. According to my bill it was about 16.5gigs.
I upload alot to youtube. And I do alot of file sharing with my job. I needed the air card becuae I'm on the go. Also afer talking wit a sprint rep she said theyarent waving the ETFs like VZW. So my question is who should I go with? I enjoyed using VZW for voice and Sprint for Data.

Sprint said that only 3% of their customers will be affected. I wouldn't worry about it.

Doesn't this constitute a breach of contract for laptop card users? If they cap the service I will fight tooth and nail to get off my contract and go straight to At&t.

Actually....
When those new T & C's come out, if you read them you will notice they are only capping the broadband usage for those who are roaming. Or use most of their data service while roaming. It;s not going to be for those who use it while on actual network coverage, sorry haters.

Now that they are all the same prices with all the same limits I'll have to sell the data cards based on area covered or speed. I had trouble selling the att and Verizon cards because of their cap.I guess its a more level playing field, I have them all set up so the customer can try each one out so it's about speed or area covered. Att is quite a bit faster but a little lacking in coverage.Sprint and Verizon seem to be the same so there it will be about equipment price.Sprint was pretty easy to sell with no cap and it is faster than our store's dsl.

so is this strictly for modem data like data cards and phone as modem. or will this impact those who use opera mini and aim and stuff with just their phones not attached to their computers?
Will only impact 3% of customers. I would say only data cards becuase using 5gigs on a phone in a month would be crazy!
