Verizon Wireless has confirmed that it will be rolling out an improved push-to-talk offering later this summer to compete with Sprint's PTT services. Sprint recently launched QChat phones and services in several markets, including Colorado, Kansas, and Ohio. It will be expanding the availability of QChat over time. QChat permits standard CDMA-based phones to interact with iDEN phones and vice versa. Verizon will respond with the launch of new phones and an improved PTT service. It did not provide a time frame for the launch, nor did it say exactly what technology it will be using to improve it's PTT service and make it competitive with Sprint's QChat service.

Verizon PPT Dead For Years

Verizon showed 2 commercials promoting their PPT. Now after years of not promoting it at all, now they want to promote it? Why? As good as Verizon is at offering wireless, PPT is NOT something they have any power in. Both Sprint and Nextel offer several phones with PPT (Sprint-Sanyo. Nextel-Motorola). Having to buy 1 type of phone, with 1 type of accessory is why people choose Sprint and Nextel's PPT feature. Companies don't want a Verizon Samsung, Moto, and Nokia PPT. They want 1 phone brand.
Both AT&T and Verizon's PPT features have failed to impress anyone and that is why neither carrier is promoting them. So Verizon shouldn't even bother now. It is too little too late. Verizon CAN NOT COMPETE WITH QCHAT! So give it up....

The Facts About This...

The article that Phone Scoop shows doesn't say this but VZW's QCHAT will not interact with Sprint's QCHAT or Nextel's iDEN network. This means that VZW will have a VERY small amount of PTT users unless somehow they can strike a deal with Sprint, VERY UNLIKELY.

Sprint's QCHAT will be able to PTT Nextel users, which is where the overwhelming majority of PTT users are.
Right but with a million customers a quarter fleeing, Verizon can capture a lot of the market share.
...
Exactly!! 😉
I'm betting that VZ is looking at this service more for the "push to" services availability than just the PTT.

From what i understand, Qchat can let you use the PTT service to send pics, vids, files, messages, and all kinds of other stuff using t...

Bad for Sprint Good for Verizon

Hopefully sprint can stop their massive hemorrhaging and convince their customers to stay.

But I think sprint still lacks the necessary skills to implement a first class ad campaign.

Once Verizon releases their qhcat GzOne and a few other phones in the works, followed by a massive ad campaign it will be the end for sprints qchat.
This is very interesting ,I agree a great move on verizon"s part.I figured this was coming its been rumored for a while now
...
How is this bad for Sprint?... Sprint launched their QChat, Verizon hasn't, not to mention Sprint services are still less than Verizon.

Besides, youre talking about ONE feature, a feature Sprint has rolled out.
...
How many people does verizon have with a PTT phone on their network? Certainly not the 20 million people Sprint ALREADY has on Nextel, not to mention the millions that will get qchat phones, verizon should just give up on trying to compete with sprint...

Actually it might be bad for Qualcomm. Because that is based off of Qchat, which Sprint has exclusively. should be interesting in the upcoming months of what happens and whether or not Sprint sues Qualcomm and Verizon and/or they will tell Verizon to ...

All you're doing is stating your opinion nothing factual about that, you can try to "explain" all you want, in the end it's just YOU'RE opinion. Do you honestly think 20 mil Nextel users will jump ship to Verizon just to pay more in service fees, for ...

Quick question

I haven't heard the Verizon PTT in action does it work pretty good?

I know the ATT push to talk is decent denpending on the handset they are using but not the greatest.

Just wandering thanks!
Just not gonna happen. The reason why Sprint/Nextel still has push to talk customers has NOTHING to do with speed. It has nothing to do with the fact that its Sprint/Nextel. It has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that there's 20 million people who can ...

No matter how you try to spin it Verizon will fail at this, you continue to spew garbage. Sprint has lost 1 million customers in the last year and 1 million in the last Q, saying Sprint loses 1 million customers every 3 months is very misleading. Mos...

Sprint Qchat Is Better

Sprint still will own the market when it come to direct connect almost everyone use this service who will switched to a provider that just created this service less than 2yrs ago nextel has at least 15yrs yes sprint Qchat will not use the Iden network but you still can chirp nextel big benefit also should do some research Qchat this was made exclusively for Nextel with the agreement that they acquired a digital nextel which in return Sprint brought them also the Qchat patient Nextel would have use the Qchat service eventually but it would have cost them too much many to change Iden to CDMA that is where Sprint stepped in do some reshearch Qchat will dominate the market like Nextel has and still is
You can’t say that this will be better than the competition because Sprint isn’t doing well at all. IDEN is losing customers in droves and the dual mode phones are not doing that well.

The only main differences from Qchat...

Do you work in Sprint customer service? Your grammar looks like a lot of their outsourced reps talk. Reading your posts gave me a headache. Try using a period.

Handsets and timeframe.

According to “phonemag” and “Engadget” there would be two phones to start, The Palm Treo 800W and Samsung i770. The link is http://www.phonemag.com/verizon-slide-present ation-reveals-treo-800w-i770-062987.php . they should come out in the 3rd quarter of 2008.
Ummm I think those were the PDA in the presentation that was leaked, the Rev A PTT phones are the Motorola V750 and the G'Zone(Geez One)711 series.

Sprint Qchat Still Will Be Better

Why will people switch from the carrier who dominated the market with PTT no one will leave Sprint once they flood the market with there new Qchat phone no they are no using the Iden nework but you can still PTT iden customers also Qchat was created exclusively for Nextel in exchange change acquired a CDMA network this have been in the making for years Qchat for Nextel do some research they would have rolled this out themselves but they didn't want to invest the money to upgrade from Iden to Qchat Sprint already had a CDMA nextel which is why they stepped in and brought nextel Qchat will also dominate the market the same way Nextel has and still is hands down

anyone?

see anything anywhere saying that the vzw system wont work with sprint/nextel system? im not doubting it, i would just like to read it
Actually BrewChat and Qchat are supposed to interoperate with each other but I think according to the agreement, the one that Sprint has exclusively over, (I don’t remember all of it though) has exclusivity on the interoperability between...
