Nokia and Qualcomm Come to Terms Over Patents

Nokia and Qualcomm emerged from a Delaware court yesterday with a new, 15-year cross licensing agreement in place. They were set to battle over the use of certain wireless patents, and instead were able to come to terms over patents covering GSM, EDGE, CDMA, WCDMA, HSDPA, OFDM, WiMax, LTE and other technologies. Under the terms of the new agreement, Nokia may use Qualcomm's patents in its chipsets and network infrastructure equipment, and Qualcomm may use certain Nokia technologies in its chips. Qualcomm also won the right to call several disputed WCDMA, GSM, and OFDMA patents its own. Nokia will make an upfront payment to Qualcomm and pay ongoing royalties, but the exact financial details were not disclosed.
