Google has made its Sync software available to the iPhone and Windows Mobile devices. Google Sync lets users automatically synchronize calendar and contacts data between Gmail and Google calendar and mobile handsets. It works because Google has licensed Microsoft's ActiveSync technology. Google Sync works both ways, so any changes made on the phone are automatically reflected on the web and vice versa. Google Sync is also available for SyncML-enabled phones and BlackBerries, S60, Series 40 and Sony Ericsson phones. Google Sync for the iPhone and Windows Mobile is free, beta software. By licensing ActiveSync, Google has opened up the possibility for true push email for the iPhone and Android.
