A company called Zer01 Mobile is calling itself a new mobile phone carrier. It offers unlimited voice and data for $70 per month on unlocked smart phones. Zer01 Mobile has a roaming agreement with AT&T, but uses its own IP. Calls go through AT&T's data network via Zer01's proprietary VoIP technology. The VoIP application is able to work seamlessly over AT&T's GPRS and EDGE networks when 3G is unavailable. Right now, it works with Windows Mobile 6, but Zer01 plans to offer its service to the Android, BlackBerry, Symbian, and Java platforms. Because of the agreements Zer01 has with AT&T, users need not fear exceeding the 5GB cap that AT&T has on data plans. Zer01 does not require contracts, and the service works month-to-month. The company will launch a closed beta in April, and set a full release date in the future.

Isn't unlimited data 60?
If unlimited data is $60 for the usb data modems, and unlimited data is 30 for pda phones, 10 more a month for truly unlimited data might make sense. If AT&T knows that is what it is for, then it will prob stay around. otherwise... Also the economy of scale works here. Imagine. you get 60/mo or 50/mo and don't have to deal with all headache of collections/phone subsidies/warranties/CS. pretty sweet deal for AT&T.
Since August 31st of last year, the Data Connect plan for usb modems caps at 5gb, and that's been a hard cap (as in: you're billed for everything over 5gb) since September. Anyone who activated before that would still have an unlimited plan.

I just dont get it
How can other companies use someone else network and offer a much better deal, i.e. Boost uses Nextel and they offer unlimited everything for $50 and no contract, but Nextel will cost you twice that and a two year deal.
I think when a carrier gets big, billing depts and such start getting really, really expensive
I can only speak for Nextel and Boost. You go for Nextel and you basically get a wider array of phones and protection of that phone. Your Boost phone breaks and you have to buy another device. You can't get it fixed either. So imagine blowing $100 on ...
