Nokia Intros New 'Point & Find' App for Camera Phones
Apr 1, 2009, 2:33 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Today Nokia announced a new beta application called Point & Find. Users aim their phones' camera at an object, and are automatically linked to information about that object. Point & Find uses real-time image processing and recognition technologies to link the user to digital content and services. It can also read bar codes, will integrate GPS data, and supports category-specific text-entry search. When the phone is pointed at an object, the software uses the phone's camera and data connection to evaluate the object. It then searches through a database, identifies the object, and returns a set of links to associated content and services. Right now, the beta is limited to users in the U.S. and U.K., and focuses on movies. Nokia said that more services and countries will be integrated into the application over time.
