Today Verizon Wireless announced the availability of the first set of technical specifications for manufacturers wishing to build devices for Verizon's future Long Term Evolution network. The specs provide guidelines for both access and data transport for LTE devices. Verizon said that it will host a web conference on May 13 to discuss the specifications in more detail. The company plans a commercial roll-out of LTE starting in 2010. The LTE network will use Verizon's 700MHz spectrum, and be used to connect a wide range of devices to wireless data services.

Verizon certainly isn't waisting anytime. . .

Sure will be interesting to see which cities have LTE this time next year.

But what I am really curious about is what real world speeds Verizon will initialy launch the LTE network at.
At 700 MHz, I think the priority is not speed but Coverage. If they shoot for high speed at a low frequency there will be bandwidth available only for a low amount of users per tower.

I'm more curious as to how they will get Voice to work over LTE....

I wonder if we can expect tri-mode handsets in the future? 700/800/1900 with 700 for data only with 800 and 1900 for voice and data?
