May 20, 2009, 1:48 PM by Eric M. Zeman
Today Nokia announced new capabilities of its Ovi Maps service. The new features include high resolution 2D/3D terrain and satellite maps, 3D landmarks for over 200 cities, rotation, tilting, night view, fly-overs and fly-throughs. It also includes points-of-interest information from content suppliers such as Lonely Planet, Michelin and Wcities. POIs can be bookmarked, categorized and shared, and maps and routes can be created on the desktop and shared/synced with a mobile device. In addition to the new version of Ovi Maps, Nokia also released the Ovi Maps Player API, which will let developers embed Ovi Maps features and services directly into web sites using JavaScript. The new version of Ovi Maps Beta is a free download.
