Today Qualcomm announced the QSD8650A Snapdragon chipset for smartphones, which boosts processing power to 1.3Ghz and drops power consumption by 30% at the same time. The new chip has many features, including 2D/3D graphics engines, multi-mode support for UMTS/CDMA 3G networks, GPS, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi support, MediaFLO, and support for high-definition WXGA displays. The chip uses 45nm process technology and is packaged in a 15mm x 15mm footprint. It draws less than 10 milliwatts of power when in standby mode. The chip will sample in late 2009.
