EBay to Sell Skype

The New York Times is reporting that eBay is prepared to sell Skype to a group of private investors, according to those familiar with the company's plans. Skype offers inexpensive phone calls that are passed through the internet rather than traditional phone lines. Skype also offers mobile versions of its software, which allow some mobile phones to make calls through data connections rather than via regular cellular network connections. eBay is seeking $2 billion for Skype. eBay has not commented directly on the matter, and it is not clear how this sale will affect Skype's services. eBay purchased Skype in 2005 for more than $3 billion.

Viva La Skype!

I love Skype so much and I wish they would become better. I'm pretty sad that ebay has to sell this most precious of free services. PM me and I will call you on Skype. I love it that much. I would buy it myself but I can't. I don't have enough money.

Why is this news for PhoneScoop?

Phonescoop deals with cell phones, and the technoligy that backs it. Why is PhoneScoop posting about an auction house selling a VoIP buisness?

How does this relate to cellular?

As mentioned in the post, Skype offers its services for a variety of mobile phones, including the iPhone, Android phones and S60. People use Skype's services from their cell phones. It's relevant to the millions of people who do so.
