EBay to Sell Skype

The New York Times is reporting that eBay is prepared to sell Skype to a group of private investors, according to those familiar with the company's plans. Skype offers inexpensive phone calls that are passed through the internet rather than traditional phone lines. Skype also offers mobile versions of its software, which allow some mobile phones to make calls through data connections rather than via regular cellular network connections. eBay is seeking $2 billion for Skype. eBay has not commented directly on the matter, and it is not clear how this sale will affect Skype's services. eBay purchased Skype in 2005 for more than $3 billion.
