Nokia Offers Developers Tools for Ovi
Sep 3, 2009, 7:40 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Nokia announced a new set of tools that developers can make use of to create applications and services for the Ovi Store and other Ovi services. Nokia is offering a set of Ovi APIs and an Ovi SDK (software development kit) beta. The first set of APIs include an Ovi Maps Player API and the Ovi Navigation Player API. Nokia said it will roll out SDKs and APIs for other services in the coming months. It also opened up an Ovi developer beta program for developers to join through Nokia's Forum Nokia organization. Registered developers will receive access to the Ovi SDK and APIs. Developers that create for Nokia devices using the Ovi tools may be able to sell their applications via the Ovi Store as early as 2010. The Ovi APIs and SDK should help developers create apps that have a more native look and feel.
