Palm today announced the Pixi, the second webOS smartphone from the company. The Pixi is similar to the Pre, but in a simpler, much thinner slab form factor. Some specs are a step down from the Pre, although presumably at a lower price point; the camera is 2-megapixel, the display is smaller, and it does not have wi-fi. It does however sport EVDO Rev. A data, 8 GB of internal memory, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Like the Pre, it will be available exclusively from Sprint at first, "in time for the holidays." Palm also announced that a Facebook app will be available for webOS, although it did not specify when. The company has made some improvements to its Synergy sync feature, including integration with Yahoo! (contacts, calendar and IM) and LinkedIn (contacts). A spokesperson said these improvements would "likely" be made available in a software update for the Pre as well. The Pixi features a rubberized back cover, and several "Artist Series" covers will be available for personalization. Pricing will be announced at a later date.
