Garmin Nuvifone to Street October 4

Today Garmin announced that the nuvifone G60 will be available from AT&T retail stores and online starting October 4. The G60 is a touch-based device that focuses on providing location-based services and relies on heavy integration of Garmin's GPS technology. It will support turn-by-turn directions and will have millions of points of interest available to users to explore. It is compatible with AT&T's 3G network, and also has Wi-Fi with access to AT&T's Wi-Fi hotspots. It has a 3 megapixel camera with autofocus and geo-tagging. The G60 will cost $300 after rebate with new agreement. Nuvifone Premium Connected Services, which includes traffic updates, white pages, weather, movie, local events and fuel price content, will cost $6 per month.

😉 I have seen a lot of posts here about people not quite understanding what makes the Nuvifone so great, and those who do not understand why it is so costly....
First, this phone is meant for those needing a PDA type phone with acces to the web and a heavy interest on GPS type services. If this is not you, think about a different phone. The Nuvifone offers turn by turn directions similar to that of AT&Ts Navigator, except for one big difference, the subscription is put into the price of the phone and not paid on a monthly basis. Think about it, the contract is for 2 years, so that is $10 per month, ($240) when you subtract that from the cost of the phone, you are getting the phone for 160 upfront plus the $100 mail in rebate, so you b...

Test drove it today
I tested the Garmin Nuvi today. Great phone with fast system and nice size.
The screen is sharp and clear. Love the SMS part with sending your current location with link to Garmin maps in a text msg. It is superior to AT&T nav based on maps and speed. I would almost want to use it instead of my iPhone for while... 🙂 🙂
PS there is no other phone on the market today that I would want to replace the iPhone with...!

I definitely like this device better for navigation. It's a very nice touch phone. And, actually, I think it tops the iphone. The iphone had it's shine. Now it's time to move on to better things. I'm sticking with the Nuvifone ;)
Garmin Outlook?
Does anyone know if you will be able to put your corporate outlook email on the Garmin?

It seems like AT&T is carrying mostly touch-screens and slider phones. I miss the bar and flip phones. I like those better.
They're just following the market trends. Touchscreens are becoming expected on high end phones. Flip and bar phones with standard keypads will be relegated to the low end.

For all you naysayers....
The reason this phone is higher in price is because it includes the premium for the GPS maps up front, but you DO NOT have to pay for the service (including the voice turn-by-turn). In order to get the premium services (gas prices, movie times, etc.), you pay $5.99 a month for that. Personally, I think it's a good selling point for the phone and will make it decently popular for the people willing to shell out the cash (no GPS cost for the lifetime of the product? not bad!).
Also, Google Maps is good and all, and yes, it is free, but the ONLY reason it's free is because so many people use Google.com that the advertisements pay for things Google does. If it wasn't for that, Google would have to charge for a lot of the services they offer f...

so i have to pay 300$ and 2 years contract to use this included GPS program?
all pdaPhones got build-in GPS these days!
i can get GPS programs for pdaphone for under 100buk!
example: Iguidance 2009, tomtom, oncourse, etc

A phone that has been on Garmin's website for over a year
is just NOW able for purchase? I've tried to get this phone for a long time but gave up when it had no option to buy... Thanks
One thing I don't understand...
One thing I don't understand is these pos U.S. wireless carriers are always trying to push they're own stupid services, so I'm actually surprised ATT would carry a device that has a service that is supior to they're ATT Navigator.

I had it when I had the BB Curve and I loved it. And it's free. Google is awesome!
And I hear you on AT&T's not carrying Nokia's N Series. Nokia's high end phones are very good. I just wish their low end phones were as good as they used to be.....
