Verizon, Google Agree on Net Neutrality

Lowell McAdam, CEO of Verizon Wireless and Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, recently issued a joint statement about the issue of net neutrality. though the companies disagree on many statements, there is at least one area where they feel the same. McAdam and Schmidt write, "we both think it's essential that the Internet remains an unrestricted and open platform--where people can access any content (so long as it's legal), as well as the services and applications of their choice." The two laid out six ideas that they think are vital to the net neutrality discussion. They are: 1.) Users should continue to have the final say about their web experience. Control will kill the web; 2.) Investment in advanced networks is vital; 3.) The existing wireline broadband rules appear to be sufficient — if enforced properly; 4.) Flexibility in government policy is key, dense legislation cold be bad; 5.) Broadband network providers should have the flexibility to manage their networks to deal with threats of any kind; 6.) Transparency is a must. Broadband provides need to present customers with clear information about their services.
