Nokia Slaps Apple with Patent Lawsuit Over iPhone

Today Nokia filed a lawsuit against iPhone maker Apple, claiming that the phone violates 10 of Nokia's GSM, UMTS and Wi-Fi patents. In a press release, Nokia said, "The patents cover wireless data, speech coding, security and encryption and are infringed by all Apple iPhone models shipped since the iPhone was introduced in 2007." Nokia pointed out that some 40 other companies currently license these same patents, which it calls fundamental to making GSM-based cell phones work. The lawsuit was filed in Delaware, but Nokia didn't state any specific damages that it is seeking.
