Nokia Now Shipping the N900

Nokia has announced that the N900, its newest multimedia device that is based on Maemo 5 (rather than Symbian S60) is shipping to Europe, the Middle-East, Russia and North America. It will be sold unlocked, and won't be sold by carriers.

Insane to Sell this Worldwide and NOT 3G 850/1900

In north america, if tmob was not going to be the exclusive carrier, why would nokia release it with the 1700 band that nobody else in north america [ or anywhere for that matter uses]. The should have atleast included 1900 3g freq that they use on n85-1/n86-1 . I have a feeling that t-mob was going to get this exclusively but they probably withdrew at the last second. You can bet this will be the last N-series device t-mob will ever be offered.

It's actually a good thing for me. I have CinBell and they use the 1700/2100 bands (for what reason I don't know) so it'll work out for me. I wish they would all just get on the same standard across the US. It would make things a lot easier for us ove...

Not sold by carriers???

I didn't see anywhere in the reference information that it would NOT be sold by carriers and that it would be unlocked. It listed a SIM-Free price and also that it would be offered subsized in the official Nokia Blog.

Nokia often sells phones unlocked, but it will depend on what they want to do with the carriers in each country. I'm pretty sure I saw a news piece about an AWS 1700 band capable N900, so that points to T Mobile selling (and almost certainly subsidiz...
