Nokia Shows Off New Symbian User Interface

Nokia recently showed off some of the elements and features it hopes to include in the next generation of its Symbian platform. In a presentation Nokia made during its Capital Market Day, Nokia stated that the Symbian platform itself isn't bad, but its user interface is. With that in mind, Nokia plans a number of changes to the user interface to streamline the operating system and make it easier to use. Nokia will flatten the architecture a bit, add multi-touch capabilities, reduce the number of clicks it takes to perform many tasks, increase the frame rate in scrolling tasks from 15fps to 60fps, as well as remove some 350 user prompts that interrupt people using the device as they navigate around the user interface. Nokia believes the new user interface, which will be available some time in 2010, will be three times faster to use.
