According to a report from Reuters, HTC has decided it won't make any bids to buy out ailing Palm. HTC examined Palm's numbers during due diligence and decided that, "There just weren't enough synergies to take the deal forward," according to someone familiar with the company's plans. With HTC now out of the picture, Lenovo has emerged as the leading candidate to buy Palm. Lenovo has $2.3 billion in cash on hand, and is looking to enter the smartphone space. It recently announced an Android phone. Buying Palm could give it the presence it needs it markets outside of China.

Oh well.
