Obama Commits to Auctioning Off 500MHz of Spectrum

The Obama Administration recently announced that it plans to double the amount of wireless spectrum available for wireless broadband and other wireless services. President Obama plans to sign a presidential memorandum today which will commit the U.S. government to auction off 500MHz of federal and commercial spectrum. National Economic Council director Lawrence H. Summer said in a statement, "This initiative will catalyze private sector investment, contribute to economic growth and help to create hundreds of thousands of jobs." Revenue generated by the auctions will be spent to improve infrastructure, public safety, and reduce budget deficits.

Verizon and AT&T this morning refused a request by federal transportation officials to delay this week's planned launch of 5G service in the critical new C Band. [Update: By evening, the two companies agreed to a two-week delay.] The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) insists that the service could potentially interfere with radio altimeters that planes use to measure distance to the ground in poor weather.

FCC Raises Over $22 Billion in Latest Mid-Band 5G Auction

The FCC's Auction 110 has concluded, with up to 33 bidders paying a total of $22.5 billion for 4,041 licenses out of 4,060 offered. All of the top three national wireless carriers participated in the auction.

The US FCC (Federal Communications Commission) just announced the winners of its auction 110, for prime new mid-band radio spectrum ideal for 5G. AT&T and Dish spent the most, each splurging for enough licenses to cover the entire continental US.

If you are reading this you prob have a cell phone and pay a bill every month. If you fit this profile read on. how much is your phone bill? (enter $$$ here). good. Now if you have health insurance you can stop reading. If you do not have health insurance and you qualified above, you should put your priorities in order! The gov should step into your life and demand a house hold budget to be completed every month. "but that's not fair." This countries tax dollars will now pay for your health care while you pay your cell phone bill. "THATS NOT FAIR!"
