Verizon Wireless today announced the Motorola Droid 2, which will ship with Android 2.2 and Adobe's Flash Player Mobile 10.1. Verizon Wireless said the device will be available for pre-order starting August 11 through the Verizon Wireless web site. Similar to the original Droid, the Droid 2 is a sideways slider with QWERTY keyboard, though Motorola has redesigned the keyboard to make it easier to use. The Droid 2 will also have Swype preinstalled. It has the same 5 megapixel camera, but adds DLNA software for media playback across compatible devices. It is powered by a Texas Instruments 1GHz OMAP processor, a significant upgrade compared to the original Droid. Other features include GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and support for microSD cards up to 32GB. Verizon Wireless said the Droid 2 will ship with an 8GB microSD card, and it will have 8GB of built-in memory. Similar to the Droid X, users can add the 3G Mobile Hotspot service for $20 and connect up to five Wi-Fi devices to the internet. The Droid 2 will cost $200 after rebates with a new plan.
