Verizon Confirms Google Search Coming to Samsung Fascinate
Sep 10, 2010, 1:17 PM by Eric M. Zeman
Verizon Wireless has confirmed to Phone Scoop via email that the Samsung Fascinate, which shipped with Bing as the default search engine, will be able to download the official Android Google Search application once the Fascinate is updated to Android 2.2. Verizon Wireless would not confirm when that update is scheduled to take place, but suggested that users who want to use Google Search instead of Bing set Google.com as their Android browser home page. Verizon Wireless spokesperson Brenda Raney said, "You can go to Google's home page and download an icon from that page and use Google as an alternative search option." Alternately, Raney said that Fascinate users can "download Voice Search from the Marketplace and when you use Voice Search, it searches in Google." Though the Android 2.2 update will allow Fascinate users to download, install, and use Google Search, Google Search will not replace Bing as the main search engine that launches when the "Search" button is pressed. That button will always launch Bing, even after Google Search is installed.

Face it, this phone is garbage
This phone is a pile of garbage, even for an Android phone, and even for a Verizon phone. For $200.00 you can buy a much better handset that doesn't hang up the call when you hit the search button, or didn't have Verizon cripple the search and maps capabilities.

Bing vs. Google - Possible theory
Somebody I know actually had a really good theory, whether it's their own or not, but they deal a lot with Google in development and what not.
As more and more Google handsets are pushed to market, the risk of some anti-trust suit with Google being the default search tool on all of these devices increases. Think back to when Microsoft was shelling out all that money for the Internet Explorer default on EVERY windows pc sold. With Verizon branding the HTC and Motorola devices as "Droids", and the LG and Samsung a...

What bothers me most...
What bothers me most is that when you hit the search button on a Moto Droid, it searches Google, and you can integrate that with Google Maps, and in turn, Google Maps w/Navigation. And that works quite well. But when you search with Bing, it launches Bing maps, and Bing maps has no navigation feature tied to it, so it launches VZ Navigator. I've used VZNav, and it's a fine product, but I can't see why I should pay $10 a month for it when I can use Google Maps with Navigation as part of my data package.
The Fascinate DOE...
