The devices include the Amaze 4G, Desire S, Desire HD, EVO 3D, EVO Design 4G, Incredible S, Sensation, Sensation XL, Sensation 4G, Sensation XE, Raider, Rezound, Rhyme, Thunderbolt, and Vivid.

HTC is in the process of sending out software updates to some of its smartphones to address a security issue concerning the Wi-Fi radio. The problem revolves around applications with the "access_wifi_state" permission, and the ability to sniff out Wi-Fi passwords for networks to which the phone is connected. The affected handsets include the Desire HD, myTouch 4G, Desire S, Sensation, EVO 3D, Droid Incredible, and Thunderbolt. The update had already been distributed to some of the phones over the air, though HTC is working to make a manual update available to the last few. HTC suggests owners of the aforementioned phones check its support page the week of February 6 for more instructions.

(Follow link to read.)

HTC today provided an update concerning its commitment to offering unlocked bootloaders on its Android devices. HTC first explained that the process is complicated, with all new software builds and extensive testing required for each individual device. That said, HTC announced the first batch of phones to receive unlocked bootloaders, which will be the Sensation (global), Sensation 4G for T-Mobile, and the EVO 3D on Sprint. These devices will receive an update in August to prepare them for the unlocked bootloaders. HTC wrote, "We™re in the testing phase for the unlocking capability now, and we expect it to be fully operational by early September for devices that have received the software updates. We'll continue rolling out the unlocking capability over time to other devices as part of maintenance releases and new shipments." HTC also noted that it will provide more regular updates on the status of unlocked bootloaders moving forward.

(Follow link to read.)

The Federal Communications Commission has approved the previously announced HTC EVO 3D for the Sprint network with an interesting and unannounced spec. The FCC has confirmed that the EVO 3D supports 800MHz CDMA in the ESMR band. The ESMR 800MHz band is what Sprint uses for its iDEN network. Sprint eventually plans to transition the ESMR band from iDEN to CDMA as part of its expansive network improvement initiative. Once that transition is complete and Sprint ports its voice services to the ESMR spectrum, the HTC EVO 3D will be able to make use of it. Sprint's main CDMA network operates in the 1900MHz PCS band.

(Follow link to read.)
