maura13 submitted this review of the Sanyo Katana DLX:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

this was my phone before i switched to the new lg lotus(which i dont really like).i only switched because i wanted a change. what can i say?i like getting new phones, just for that reason. but this time,i wish i had stayed with the katana.

PROS
-the texting. i thought this was by far the easiest phone to text on(t9).
-great reception.
-good sound quality
-good batter life. it barely ever went dead on me.
-freedom to change around the theme and color options.my new lotus is grey/yellow for life :(
-pretty good camera. it takes the picture really fast, and was never blurry for me.
-little details that most people don't notice or care about. for example,it has a little red light that flashes when you get a text message.my new lotus doesnt do anything like that. and i also like the sounds, the sound of the keypad. the sounds when you get a text.stuff like that :)

CONS
-the rubber flaps on the outside of the phone open up too easily.and mine never stayed closed after awhile.
-when you don't have any service,it wont show you the time or anything. my new lotus at least still shows me the time.
thats about it!
i think its overall a pretty good little phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Turkiye-Shish submitted this review of the Sanyo Katana DLX:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Great phone. I've been a sanyo fan for years because of how solidly built they're phones are and the great reception they get. But I was always disappointed with the software interface/features. I went to Samsung once for a bit because the features were better but the phone was cheap and toy-like and slow.
SO... Now Sanyo has the DLX and they did it so well. Way to close the gaps!! I've had this phone for a year and really am psyched about it.

Pros:
Great Screen
4gbSD card (I don't have an separate mp3 player anymore)
Email client works well, like Outlook
Text msg while in a call
evdo r0 web speed, quick
full web browser (I haven't found a page I can't look at)
mp3 ringers (Get Roxio Record 9 and cut up songs you like for your ringers and it texts them to your phone)
4 hr batt life
solid feel, slim design
calendar, stopwatch, countdown, alarm
hours of voice record
GPS Navigation kicks butt
Favorites button (your choice of up to 12 shortcuts)
Contacts w/address, memo, groups, and more than one cell phone or home phone#
Great Reception
Screen Call w/30 sec msg and as many as your mem card can hold (old ones were 12 sec msg and only like 6 msgs)

Cons
Can't listen to music while texting or surfing web.
Bumps you out of mp3 player when someone calls (not with txt or email)
Only a couple background themes to choose from
No memo pad
No 3rd party apps like spreadsheet or something to track spending/income

bottom line: Best phone, love it!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

KeepNTouch submitted this review of the Sanyo Katana DLX:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I left the Treo 755p for the Sanyo DLX. The voice clarity is better. I expect the MP3 player to be able to download songs CONSISTENTLY. This phones gives me the option of suspending an application in the background... that didn't happen with the PALM. If I was writing an email with the PALM and a call came through I would have to start my email ALL over again.

The Sanyo DLX has well thought of options. I LOVE the Magazines option in the FAVORITES category. Good reading material. The ON Demand remembers my location for weather AND MOVIES, Convenient! The email works fine, the ringers are loud and the DLX is a ONE had operation. This is must when you are juggling many things. Also... I don't have to press 2 keys to activate the phone before I can dial a number. I had the Palm for a year and I would accidently TOUCH the IGNORE button when I meant to ANSWER a call, or some other button while struggling to get the chubby phone out of it's carrier. It also had an appetite for charging.

The DLX doesn't feel cheap or flimsy in my hands. The hinge is solid. There are options to make the font smaller or larger, depending on what you need. I thought I had Sprint TV before with my TREO, but I have more options now with the DLX. THOUGHTFUL!

The DLX is lightweight, so I can go back to wearing my phone on my waist without it being so heavy (like the Treo) that it would drag my skirts down. I can go back to wearing my phone while running and not worry if it's too heavy for the up and down action.

The TEXTING is nice, although not as easy as with a QWERTY, but you have to choose a phone based on how YOU use a phone. I might generate 200 texts a month on a busy month, other than that, this is my MAIN line for keeping many things together, so voice clarity, ease of use and reception are my priority. As well as something that is not too delicate that I have to handle like glass(plastic).

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

And they love it. The reception is not all that good. It has cool media player features. One major flaw (for me) is that you can only choose three back ground colors. Which I hate them all. Dark depressing blue, ugly berry red color, or just black. I like lighter colors. Anyways the phone is also over priced. But that's just Sanyo for you. The battery life is just a joke. The style is kind of boring. The Katana 2 is a much better design. Less square looking.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

misterix submitted this review of the Sanyo Katana DLX:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

Sanyo makes great phones. I got to say there is only 2 flaws to this model and that's the fact there is no blue version of it and it's extremelly hard to set your mp3s as a ringtone without texting it to yourself. This phone has great sound quality even in speakerphone, it's durable (I've dropped it off a high shelf, sat on it, accidentally placed a 20 pound weight on it, etc.), it has a mp3 player, comes with a mini-SD card, decent camera (I don't consider this a flaw as most phones cameras aren't nearly as good as a regular camera), Nice on screen display, talking caller ID, Memo, Voice Commands and photo ID caller ID.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mike068 submitted this review of the Sanyo Katana DLX:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

This phone does not impress me I wish it was all it could be on the sprint network and, I have had 4 of them. If you try to use to its full potential under the guidelines of the specs and I am sure you to will not be impressed either. Maybe it had something to do with the sale of the Sanyo Company. Durability is good for a phone not listed as durable it feels week but looks are deceiving a lot of people post that the razor is feels better but it does not hold up like the DLX. Good battery if you stay on your service network or if you don’t use option like TV, Music player, Web etc a lot the battery will last you a few days. Software/Firmware older revs like 1.002sp are buggy and you can’t upgrade over the network like it is suppose to rev 1.010sp is still weak.

Pros
Battery
Looks (shape)
Display (240X320 - 18bit)
Above average signal strength (all phone manufacturers)
Lots of bells and whistles
Decent camera (could be better but ok)
Bluetooth all connectivity feathers
SD card ready
Nice speaker phone
"recent contacts" option for text message
Mp3 ringtones
EVDO & EVDO Phone as a modem support

Cons
Does NOT work like advertised
Charging Port
Colors (I know wa wa wa)
Weak & Inaccurate GPS
Software/Firmware will not upgrade like it should over the network
No camera flash

Conclusion
This Phone Is Not A Good Choice For A Power User Its a Excellent Phone For Below Average/Average/Above Average Users.

P.S. I am upgrading to a Blackberry Curve 8330, I have evolved lol

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Camera is decent, comes with 128MB microsd card AND a 1gb microsd card (from letstalk.com). lightweight and slim, and long talk time so your battery lasts a while.

One thing i hate about this phone is that YOU CANNOT SET MP3 RINGERS!!!! Have to emphasize that since phonescoop says that you can upload your own ringers. MP3 and M4A(AAC) haven't worked so far (and I've tried on 3 different phones). Gonna try other formats tomorrow to see what happens.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It isn't bad but just feels very plastic.
Doesn't us a standard USB data/charging cable like the Razor does.
The Camera could be better.
The charging port is on the side of the phone and not the bottom.

I think it is a great phone and most of the cons are minor. I can not wait to see what Sanyo replaces it with.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It includes allot of handy features. One bad thing about this phone: it is not a phone for heavy texters. I learned this the hard way. The buttons are not the biggest and there is a short delay to when you press them. You kinda have to press them hard and slow for the phone to register. Another thing that you have to get used to is when you open and close the phone, it makes a clicking sound. I don't know if that is going to grow on me or not.
I do like the fact that you can access a voice memo, camera, camcorder, your music, and redial your last number without opening your phone and without using a hands-free device. One great feature with this phone is that it comes with a memory card; when you insert your memory card, you can transfer all your phone numbers onto your memory card and onto your computer or vice versa. But overall, it is a pretty nice phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

dingdong submitted this review of the Sanyo Katana DLX:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

had this phone for about 2 weeks now and had sanyo phones in the past and always like sanyo for build quality and reception is strong and clear compared to other manufacturer.
it appears that sanyo has been consistent in the build quality and strong reception. tried the lg muziq and was very dissapointed and went with katana dlx and could not be happier as its primary function of the cell phone should be reception and as a piece of great communication tool.
if anyone is looking for a no non-sense phone, this is a solid one. cell phones nowaday try to pact too much functions and the main function as a phone it suffers.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Darynm submitted this review of the Sanyo Katana DLX:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I've always liked sanyo phones although I have had my share in the past that were rather quirky. But, always liked the user interface. Now, I took a break the past couple years and went to the Samsung A900 which I really enjoyed, but had sooo many problems and horrible battery life. Then, I switched to the LG Fusic and then the LG Muziq. I was on the fence about getting the Muziq and it was neck and neck between the Katana DLX, but just was taken in by the style of the Muziq. Wow, bad choice. Like so many have claimed before me, it had so many bizarre issues. Locking up, people not hearing me or vice versa, battery life always inconsistent. Bluetooth performance was sub par at best. It had many nice functions and a really nice screen size on the front and main screen. But, when it came to every day usage, it just couldn't hold up. Regardless, I had true buyers remorse. As the old saying goes, don't judge a book by a cover. I even originally gave it a glowing review. But, It a bit premature. Sprint understood my concerns after going thru 3 muziqs and was in fear of losing my business and gave me a shot at a different choice. It was a no brainer. Went for the Katana DLX and feel right at home again with Sanyo. Phone works great! Has so many features and choices to choose from. Only missing 2 features that are hardly worth turning this phone down over. The flash and the my buddy feature which I thought was cool. Otherwise, Solid phone. Well done. Have to say, I will probably hold on to this one for a long time. I hear that Sanyo is transitioning to another company to continue to build their products. Hopefully they won't mess up a great product line.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Kathy2003 submitted this review of the Sanyo Katana DLX:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

The Katana DLX,in my opinion, is awesome. I have had 3 different phones, and I was trying to decide between RAZR and Katana DLX. All the reviews showed this to be the best. There were some things I was worried about from some reviews, but, I took a chance and what a great thing I took a chance on.
PROS:
voice is great
style is awesome
quality of text is great
ringers sound good and they are loud
battery life is long (recharge about every 4 days)
I work in a concrete building and I still have a signal! My other phone just couldn't handle that.

cons:
one thing. The battery life is long but it also takes about 4-4.5 hours to fully recharge, and thats the only thing negative I have to say about it.

I am with Sprint and I bought this at Radio Shack and what a great deal.I gave this a 4.5 rating only because in my opinion nothing is perfect.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

eric_cartman submitted this review of the Sanyo Katana DLX:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

This is a good phone. Has a bunch of good options. My first choice was the M610 but they pulled it out two weeks before my contract renewal. Also, the price of this phone has gone down 50 bucks since I bought it.

PROS:
-Clear calls (even with one or two bars)
-Good camera
-Fast interface (compared to my old LG pm-225)
-Bluetooth (w/ full features such as OBEX, OPP, HSP, and A2DP)
-SD Card
-Music Player (it has its own native music player, of sorts)
-Native File Browser
-

CONS:
-No PC Sync (I wish there was some sync software to update phone contacts and calendar and to-do lists)
-No 2MP camera (The M610 had one, and this one does not, and it bothered me as there was no phone at the time with a 2 megpixel camera)
- No Memo pad
-Although this phone has a music player, there is no adapter available to convert the 2.5mm to 3.5mm. I had to use an adapter that came with the muziq. (No sprint store sells any, which is pathetic.)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

bsrachels submitted this review of the Sanyo Katana DLX:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

i just got this phone about 1 week ago (switching from a razr v3) and i am very pleased with it. I am going to compare it with the razr since most people have used one.

Form factor/body:
Great yet reminiscent of the razr but the katana is much sturdier and feels less "cheap" than the razr, also it it doesn't chip any where near as much as the razr

Screen/keypad:
though the screen is a little small on the katana it beats the razr and most other phones in resolution it very bright and clear easy to read. The keypad is a little close together but is separate keys do it is easy to dial on. Unlike the razrs "one large key"

Internal/features:
The user-face of the katana is more interesting and a lot more fun than the razr i had (cingular) it is more customizable. Also when i bought mine i got a free micro sd card which you can use.

Fun Stuff:
the katana is so much more fun than the razr v3. first off the camera options are better you can change your pic. it to black and white and colors. Also it is a music phone!! you can buy it from the sprint music store right on your phone!! Though the games are not good because they are only demos as usual.

Battery life/Performance:
the battery life on the katana was actually better than the razr. the fist day i got the razr i charged it and it died in less than 8 hours!! the katana is doing better with a 3-4 day life. Also the calls on the katana are better you can actually hear the person you are talking to. unlike the razr!

Bottom line if you want a phone to beat out your old razr or any other phone this is a great choice from sprint!!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
