automanpaul submitted this review of the Sony Ericsson TM506:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

I received this phone through the you know it "Insurance" Asurion to exchange the phone for a DEFECTIVE Nokia I bought new less than one year ago, and has been exchanged 89 times, this being the NINETH time because of the 6263 failures, I know people that have bought ONE cell pone in their LIFE, but the Nokia 6263 was likely a good phone, but turns out NOKIA isn't the company repairing or rebuilding these units, its the staffs at T-Mobile and the LOW-Ball Asurion Insurance folks sending me a Piece of JUNK in comparing it to the Functions and ease of use, this TM 506 can't hold a candle to the Good Operating Nokia 6263 and that's WHY I'm sending it BACK to try a Samsung phone because this Phone has the space button located on the #sign??????? I've used many cell phones, but after fifteen years I'm not going to get use to that, which makes the text feature not user friendly, plus finding your way around in this Sony TM506 is a real joy in wasting your valuable time, I mean talk about LAME formats!

BUT hen again what can you expect, an Insurance Company low balled me and sent me junk of a phone and the real problem lies NOT in the Nokia phone, it lies in the Idiot morons at T-mobile and Asurion attempting to screw their customers at every turn, Its not going to happen to me, trust me on that one.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

CheroCreek submitted this review of the Sony Ericsson TM506:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I've had this phone for a few months now. All the general functions and features are fine. The unit looks nice and generally works well.

Pros:

1. The keypad, menus and ports are easy to access and use. The keypad is slim but big enough for bigger fingers.

2. Sound quality is excellent.

3. The accessories included work well.

4. Battery life is good - about 3.5 to 4 hours of continuous talking.

Cons:

1. The case is a bit light weight and sort of flimsy feeling. It would not take much to break it.

2. The soft buttons are almost too soft and one can press too hard on them and feel the circuit board underneath.

3. Though the battery life is OK it is a bit less than what was listed in its specs. It is listed at 4.5 hours of talking time.

4. Like many clam shell designs the phone's reception is not as good as one piece designs. My daughter uses a Samsung Gravity and when my phone shows one to no towers hers still has 2 or 3. (We live in an area with only moderate coverage)

Overall:

As my title says - it is a very nice phone but not perfect. It works well enough and I am satisfied with it enough that I would recommend it and would have another one for myself.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

My day really likes the device overall. But overall It could be better sound wise and ringtone wise. The volume for the ringer is just not as loud as it could be for that phone. But for overall use and what my day needs it for, its great . He enjoys it it has better service and reception and he can hear us talk to him and vice versa better than his old phone. So this phone is a good phone to have I just wish the ringers on the phone were louder so we could hear it better.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

faczo submitted this review of the Sony Ericsson TM506:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

This phone would be a fantastic little device if it weren't so slow. Do yourself a favor and if you buy this phone with the T-Mobile Fav5 software on it, flash it with the Cincinnati Bell firmware (and of course change the right settings). Doing this will speed the phone up and unlock more features of the phone. You can manage your Fav5 contacts from T-Mobile's website.

Pros:
- Intuitive interface
- Loud ringer
- Great call quality
- Decent battery life

Cons:
- The interface can lag severely
- The phone firmware is buggy
- The text message composition screen has very annoying attributes (like "Word not in dictionary" pop-ups) when using the T9 functionality.
- The keyboard doesn't have very good tactile feedback nor are the keys easy to find without looking at them.
- The phone sometimes takes ages to hang up a call if you accidentally dial a number, which will happen frequently if you try and get ahead of the menu system (don't).
- You'll sometimes be sent to the wrong menu the next time you are in the text message area if you make or receive a call while in that menu.
- If the phone picks up a faster connection on the network, the interface will freeze and then try to catch up to whatever you were in the middle of doing. You'll learn to hate texting in certain places because of this.

I would give this phone a higher rating because it's a quality device hardware-wise, but I can't because the interface is just too aggravating to use every day.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Sentinel587 submitted this review of the Sony Ericsson TM506:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

This is the first phone that I have actually absolutely loved and had no problems with. It has great functionality as well as battery life. I refer to it as the sleeper phone because not many people know about it and when they do discover the rich content they typically wonder where it has been. The camera is impressive enough yea only 2 mega pixels but still good enough to print from. It has 21MB of internal memory for storing music and pictures expandable through the micro memory stick. Music player works really well and is loud. Bluetooth has a power saver mode which is a nice added feature for those who use bluetooth alot and works with all the bluetooths I have put it up against (including the one built into my laptop). Also supports Stereo bluetooth so while out for a job or walk you can listen to your music in stereo with a stereo bluetooth headset.

Pros
Great camera 2megapixel
Bluetooth stereo
Lots of memory
Plays mp3 as well as wma, aac, aac+, wma pro
Durable

Cons
None that I can think of

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I upgraded from a Samsung T639. I recently moved into a 2ND floor apartment in a four story building. I was getting no reception at all. The Sony gives me three bars. I'm no longer missing calls. The upgrade was $29.99 with a new two year agreement. The phone feels & looks great.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

rljohnson submitted this review of the Sony Ericsson TM506:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I have to say, I LOVE my phones theoretical capabilities...but thats it. I have had this phone since Christmas and am now on my 3rd unit. Battery life is excellent as is the reception. Sound quality from the mp3 player is outstanding for the size of the phone. Easily heard throughout a moderately quiet room with excellent quality. The software on the other hand is lacking. The interface is a crisp screen with slow software that will make the feel more like a smart-phone. I moved to this phone from a Dash to get away from the lag time in windows mobile only to find this one just as slow. Also, I have had 3 blue-tooth headsets that I have tried to work with this phone hence the 3 units. All of them disconnect from the headset about every 15 minutes. Powersave is turned off. All the blue-tooth earpieces work without any problems on every other phone that I have tried (ie. Friends, family, older cells that I still have). If you buy this phone, it will only work with other sony products. If you wouldn't trade every piece of computer equipment to switch from a pc to a mac or vise versa, then don't get this phone if you don't have all sony accessories that you would like to use with this phone. What a monopoly.

Pros-
1. Battery
2. Reception
3. Camera/Screen Quality (Outstanding)

Cons-
1. NO 3rd party support
2. Software Hangs Up
3. Bluetooth only compatible with Sony or else it's hit or miss
4. Can only use a sony memory stick!

I don't believe that it is fair that a company makes it so that if you buy their product, that supposedly adhears to protocol standards, then you are limited to their accessories only. Sounds unfair to me. I like free enterprise. Good Luck.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

lexico submitted this review of the Sony Ericsson TM506:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

The phone is easy to navigate/ customize. Call clarity is excellent. Display is beautiful. I haven't tried the mp3 player yet (no data cable). I have blue-toothed files back and forth with my kids. Battery life is so-so.

Sometimes there is an irritating lag when accessing menus (and even on opening the phone). The lag can be long enough that you wonder if you pushed the button or in the case of opening phone - if the phone is on).

Pros:
1. Phone feels nice in hand
2. Call clarity is great
3. Brilliant display (bright/vivid)
4. Easy to customize/navigate
5. Love that I can type a long text message and the phone breaks it apart to send (as opposed to me having to create/send multiple messages).
6. Loud ringers, easy to hear.
7. Like the option to see my email through t-mail - without incurring a data charge (counts as text messaging). That said, it can be slow to look at the emails - and since I would rather answer on my computer - I probably won't use this.

Cons:
1. Menu lag time (on my phone, not always present, and when it is present - it is in varying degrees)
2. No back-light for cover or screen (the light is either on or it is off - and it is not possible to alter this). The light does start dimming before it goes off - so if you are looking at something - you can then just hit the toggle key to keep in on another 15 or 20 seconds.
3. Would have preferred a window on the front of the phone, but instead there is a small rectangular window that displays the time (or a message - such as letting you know you have a new text message).
4. Wish there were some type of notification on the phone for missed messages/calls (my Sprint Katana had a small light that would occasionally flash which was helpful).

For me the pros outweigh the cons. There is no perfect phone - so it is a matter of deciding what things you can live with (and without). If it weren't for the menu lag, this phone would be pretty close to perfect for me.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

PresidentBob submitted this review of the Sony Ericsson TM506:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

It was time for me to upgrade. I had been using a Samsung T-509. It never had any problems with grabbing a signal. Most times I had between 1 and 5 bars anywhere I went yet it always worked in my house even with a low signal.

I replaced it with a Nokia 5310 Music Phone, This was the best looking phone I ever had and it had more features than any other phone I ever owned. But there was one problem. No Signal and no Network at my house.

With all the hype about the Touch Screen Phones I decide to try the Samsung Behold next.

This phones signal catching was worse than the Nokia 5310. Yesterday we went out to eat driving about 10 miles in each direction as my wife watched the signal meter on my Behold and compared it with her phones signal strength.

My Behold phone hovered between 1 bar and no signal for the entire trip while my wife's phone consistently had 5 bars.

Then we went to our local grocery store where we always use our phones to call each other from the store to see if we need anything. This new Behold not only would not work inside the grocery store BUT It wouldn't even work in the parking lot.

My wife's phone on the other hand worked everywhere, in the parking lot and in the very back of the grocery store. In fact her phone is now getting 5 bars at home sitting right next to my Behold which is still getting 1 bar.

Oh, did I forget to mention, my wife has a Sony Ericsson TM 506. I will also be getting this phone as soon as I can get in the car and return this Behold and exchange it for a TM 506 and save about $150 in the process.

Besides great signal strength this phone has fantastic screen resolution, great customizable menus, loud ringing and just about anything else you would want in a phone.

This phone is small and light weight and rugged. The only thing I can say negative about it is that the battery does not last as long as I would like it too. Perhaps it is because I have been playing around with it so much since she got it a few weeks ago.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

misfitpierce submitted this review of the Sony Ericsson TM506:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

Currently I am using the Blackberry 8220 Flip but I have this as backup (first in amber, now scarlet) and must say this phone is top notch. This was T-Mobile's first official announced 3G phone for the states and must say it is a great phone. 3G connection in Florida (West Palm) comes in clear and signal for data+calls was top notch. Phone is light yet durable and does everything nicely. Also is unlocked application wise so you can use the Opera Mini browser and Google Maps etc with the cheap web2go/T-Zones plan.

I recommend all to get this phone if not looking for a PDA but would like a phone that can load mostly all web pages, has youtube capability, has 3rd party apps enabled for use, great 3G abilities and so on. If looking for a PDA Blackberry Flip is what I recommend or wait for the Blackberry 8900 Curve II coming around Feb. 18th. Enjoy!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Does almost everything my blackberry did except it supports about 10 different types of email accounts BUT hotmail ( which is of course what I use)

Pros: -screen and colors amazing
-ease of use is great and can customize
-key pad is easy to use, and texting is
very easy with predictive text
-load ring tones
-3G network where available

Cons: - battery life, below average
- not compatible with hotmail
- must get a memory stick card vs
standard memory card
- no stereo headset

Over very pleased so far.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Thelastholdout submitted this review of the Sony Ericsson TM506:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Well, folks, this Verizon Wireless (but not really)employee/T-Mobile customer/AT&T roamer is back.

And now for the TM506. See, I shouldn't even be reviewing this phone, but after losing my V195 (and miraculously recovering it) I used my upgrade (didn't want to, would've been fine keeping the V195) and got this phone. I didn't realize before I got this phone that Sony even MADE phones. But I digress.

As some of you may know, the V195 is a simple lil' old phone. I was perfectly happy using it, never thought much of lots of features. But oh boy, after using the TM506, I'm a believer. This phone is gorgeous, there's no other way to put it. So let's lay out pros and cons:

Pros:

Clear call quality (VERY important).
Great display/display options/graphics (small exception-MyFaves is pixelated. But no biggie).
Great reception.
Nice resolution camera (technically midgrade).
Gorgeous design.
Intuitive texting (and for a non QWERTY phone, that's saying something).
Nicely functional Email access.
Intuitive web browsing.
Freakin' sweet media center (including the ability to switch screen to landscape, which also changes button settings so UI remains intuitive).
Will fit in a RAZR phone case nicely.

And cons:
Incompatible with standard USB cables and such. Can't blame Sony for trying to make money, though.
Battery life could be better, though I just turned GPS off and I get a lot of email alerts, both of which eat up the battery.
Feels a little flimsy, which makes me afraid any time I want to take the battery cover off.
Lags once in a while. Though to be fair, anything that's basically a mini computer will lag sometimes.

So that's it for now. Of course, only having had the phone for a few weeks, the jury's out on reliability. If it's anything like the V195, though, I'll end up keeping this phone past my next upgrade date. I can only hope that T-Mobile keeps selling great phones like this the entire time I'm a customer of theirs.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

fischling submitted this review of the Sony Ericsson TM506:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

I was soooo looking forward to this phone. I love its overall look, feel, large bright screen, the crisp camera pictures it takes and how customizable it is BUT it's reception at may home is a deal breaker. I can only get 3 bars inside my home (5 if I "hug" the window) and voice conversations break up terribly. I find this odd since I've have had a Moto Razr V3t for 18 months here and it always got 5 bars any where inside the house. Guess it is a weakness of the phone, so back it goes. I had the same experience when I demoed this phone inside the T-Mobile store but thought nothing of it... the test call I made to my wife was dropped and the phone showed a low signal strength. I wonder if it just sucks inside buildings? I live in a major metro area so the signal strenght should be good.

An upside is that I do not have to buy the proprietary Sony card ($20) and data cable ($25) so that I could use all of the phones features. For example, I could not transfer photos from my RAZR's micro SD card to the phones memory, which is adequate for me. I had to buy the Sony memory stick card to make it happen. Too many proprietary issues for a market place full of phones with fairly standardized cards and data cables. Argh!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I've owned everything from a Razr to and Instinct and this is my favorite by far!

CONs: --Ear piece is kinda quiet, but not as bad as people like to mention.
--Doesn't support SanDisc memory cards.
--No flash on the camera.

PROs: --Ringers are VERY loud. It's very hard to miss a call, even with the phone in your pocket.
--Excellent music player.
--Media layout is just like the PSP layout.
--2 MP camera is very clear and sharp.
--Customizable main menu.
--Recovers service very fast after loosing service. My Razr took a good 3 minutes to recover service after leaving work, this phone takes about 30 seconds.
--3G is very fast.
--Very durable. I already dropped this phone off a 12 ft. ladder and there weren't even any scratches on the phone.

Overall I would say that this is a great phone. It is definitely worth more than the 159.99 retail price and i was happy to pay that (I have a Flex Pay Account).

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It's light but sturdy and has a good shape and feel in my hand.

Pros
Good reception, I live in an area where i don't get the best service. I went to this phone from a Nokia 6263 and it gets a better signal.

Screen is nice and bright.

Camera is good.

Music player is good.

Can use opera mini and mp3's as ring tones as long as you have song sent to you over bluetooth.

Cons.

Not many i guess,it works good as a phone. The extra stuff is alright.

Camera
Can only zoom is image size is set to vga.

Battery.

Not bad 2 or 3 days with moderate use. If you turn screen brightness down and turn gps off it helps.
Over all it's a good phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

NMC submitted this review of the Sony Ericsson TM506:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I believe from young to old there is something for everyone.

I purchased the amber accent color though the green might work well for younger people.

The phone is 3G and if you live in a TMO 3G area this phone really rocks. T-Zones load quickly, Internet access is excellent and the browser works well. Text messages send almost immediately and email is just as fast.

The camera is OK at best ... no cover, no flash but it does take a nice clean picture.

The phone's screen is excellent, large bright and easy to read.

The menus are very user friendly and offer quite a few options from the usual wallpaper and ringtones to actually using the phone as a remote control.

Call quality is pretty standard.

I would suggest this inexpensive, solid built phone for just about anyone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
