Even though there are sliders, flip phones, and touchscreens out I would much rather use this extremely easy to use/navigate phone.<br /><br />Pros: nice, soft, bubbled out buttons. Fits great in my hand. Screen is small allowing the buttons to be spaced out for much easier, no look, texting. You can choose between 4 color combinations for the screen. Recent text list allows you to choose from 9 people you texted most recently for easier texting. Fits very nicely in my hand. The nub intenna (as opposed to internal intennas that all phones are made with now) makes it so you ALWAYS have reception (in any basement, Walmart, tall metal building, or deep in a forest 20 mins away from the nearest town). After 4 years with this phone I have only lost reception once or twice.<br />This phone can stand up to any kind of damage including being dropped off buildings or into water and being run over (my first phone only died bc it went through the wash cycle). I have confidence in knowing that I can throw it across the room and it will be fine. <br /><br />Cons: You can only see 2 lines (five or six words) of what you're texting and if you want to reword anything you texted earlier, you would have to click through each of the letters, as opposed to lines, to get back up to what you want to change; you also have to do this if you want to proofread your message. there is no camera and thus no incoming/outgoing picture texts (to be expected of a phone made that long ago). very crappy battery life. Can only hold 50 messages in the inbox, outbox, and drafts combined. you can't buy it anymore :P<br /><br />so, all in all, very durable with near perfect reception and easy to hold. The problem I've been having is that it's difficult to navigate through the phone. When I try to open the menu, it won't do it unless I hit push or hold down the button hard. Another problem that I'm trying to figure out is how to charge the phone. Does anyone know how to charge the phone? I plugged it up, but the blue back light just comes on. I am 14 now.(Freshman). So I had the phone for two years. While it took a lot of wear and tare it held up EXCELLENT! I have put this phone through hell and it still works as well as the first day I got it. <br /> Things my phone has made it though:<br /> -Being left in the snow/10 degree weather for 3 hours and then being run over by a car and still working!<br /> -Being droped off 4 story bleachers (came out with a small scar)<br /> -Being dropped in a marsh(yes that means water)<br /> -Being thrown 50 feet in the air and hitting grass/dirt.(angry friends)<br /> Through all of these things my phone continues to work excellent. Now to what you want to know<br /> <br /><br /><br /> Pros-<br />EXCELLENT signal strength. I always had tons of bars even in the basement of buildings and in large cities (chicago, dallas, st. louis)<br /><br />The battery life on this phone is great...Getting 10 phone calls a day it lasted 7 days easily.<br /><br />The screen is bright as can be and easy to read<br /><br />Easy to use features like silent mode, voice dialing and so on.<br /><br />ORIGINAL TETRIS...i played it for hours.<br /><br />Fairly small (can fit in ur "tight" jeans pocket<br /><br />Cost me only 10 dollars<br /><br />CONS<br />no speakerphone<br />no camera<br />keys can be slippery sometimes because of roundness<br />not a lot of games<br /><br />I know this phone is discontinued but if you can find it on ebay or something i would deffinetly recomend it. My Samsung A310 was the best phone ive had so far w/ Verizon and I am thinking about buying one from ebay or something until i see another phone i want because this phone is the worst.<br /><br />Pros:<br />-color screen<br />-polyphonic ring tones<br />-flashing lights<br /><br />Cons:<br />-BATTERY LIFE IS THE WORST-ive had so many problems with this phone and charging, sometimes it doesnt even charge!! It says that you have 3 bars on it, but when you go to talk-it says you have low battery and turns off!! Physically it's light weight, but solid; you can drop or throw it with reasonable force and not damage it. The stub antenna is firmly attached, even when you have the bad habit of using the stub as a handle. Sound and signal quality have been excellent for me. (I've used it in the Salt Lake City, UT area, and in lots of places in the deserts to the west where the maps say you shouldn't really be getting service). The backlight is BEAUTIFUL, that blue glow will hold a piece of my heart forever. The phone menus are easy to navigate: My father uses one, and he's your classic technophobe old man that has trouble with even simple electronics. Howver, the included personal information tools are a little cumbersome to use. Also on the downside, this display is small, and updates noticably slowly. The included browser is quite limited in capability. Finally, all the software versions of the phone seem to have a bug where the backlight gets stuck on, or the phone stays in analog mode for seemingly no reason, and etc. Just pulling out the battery clears these problems, and they don't happen too frequently, but it is mildly annoying.<br /> <br />+/-<br /> <br />+ Small, solid, sturdy antenna stub<br />+ Good menus, good text entry that learns the words you use, PIM-type applications built in.<br />+ Backlight is so awesome it brings me to tears.<br />+ 'UP' key is customizable to be a shortcut for one out of many functions.<br />+ Tri-mode, works good and sounds good!<br /> <br />- Small display that is a little slow-moving<br />- Can't use vibrate mode while connected to power cable (common Kyocera behaviour)<br />- Needs the battery pulled to reset the phone now and again.<br />- Browser and PIM-applications are a bit on the clumsy side.<br /> <br />If you want a phone for someone that primarily wants a solid telephone, this is it. Even as I get new phones I'm never letting my KX414s go. The caller cannot understand what you are saying. Unfortunately, the same problem exists with the replacement.
