dcolb submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-A890:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

The sleek look of this phone is very attractive, however, once you open the phone it is all down hill. The ringtones stink, the downloads are just as bad, the true tone function has been disabled for some unknown reason, the camera flips pictures which can be a pain, the antenna is poor, and reception is worse and their is no speakerphone! Isn't this suppose to be an upgrade of a phone that has most of these capabilities?!?!? I was very disappointed and am waiting on my new phone as we speak...

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Nice tones, nice screens, and LOUD! But after about a month I updated my roaming with *228. Then I could not use the menu, contacts, camera, or even call out. Error, "Use restricted - Emergency call only." After three phones that have done the same thing I am currently on the line with Verizon trying to get another phone. Do not waste your time on this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Great screen size, and good camera.

CONS
I wish there was a speakerphone or bluetooth capable. The battery life isnt too great with it either, id strongly recommend the extended battery because if you use vcast or games, it drains it pretty fast.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jonnyp79 submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-A890:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

The A890 is the best phone I've ever used, hands down. Had the phone for 2 months. I base my purchases on call quality and signal, don't care about the bells and whistles. I tried out the Motorola e815 for a day to compare, and returned 3 different phones; 2 due to dead pixels and the 3rd due to terrible echo effects and lackluster speaker phone. Samsung is the way to go w/ Verizon, beats out any other model of Verizon phones in my opinion, yet gets no love! If you want a toy get an LG, if you want a phone get a Samsung. Try it out and it will not disappoint.

Pros: Great battery life, great reception, call quality is absolutely superb on both ends, beautiful internal and external LCD screens, easy menus and navigation.

Cons: No speaker phone or MP3 player...so what.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jafree submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-A890:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Ok I'm sure you've read through like every review out there, so I'll keep it short and simple. This phone is pretty damn good, while it doesn't have as many features as the LG has, I picked this phone over the LG b/c to me that phone felt a little on the cheap side, it was pretty big compared to this phone, the samsung fits my hands pretty nicely.

Pros

1) Great reception, I get full service everywhere

2) Bright screen and colors, the service light outside is kinda cool

3) Build quality is really solid, it feels and looks much better than the LG, which is, like everyone b4 has put it, a brick

Cons

1) Battery life is good but not great, I picked up a 2nd battery b/c I like to be able to use my phone without having to keep it charged

2) Picture quality on camera is good, but not great, sometimes its really hard to get a pic to come out clear if the lighting isn't right

3) No way to really get ringtones or programs on this phone unless you buy it from Get It Now, which I have yet to do, I want to figure out a way around this

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

scpera submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-A890:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

As a long-time verizon customer, a two-year upgrade offer brought me into the store. I tried out the audivox8940 and could not tolerate the poor voice quality; especially when talking to someone else on a verizon phone. I traded it in within the trial period of fifteen days for a Samsung890. The Samsung890 voice quality is much better. The Samsung camera controls are sensible and easy to adapt to. It is working very well and so far I am happy with it. I especially like the very large bold numbers that indicate what you are dialing. My girlfriend has a LG VX8000 and it is also a good phone. Th VX800 seems a little too bulky for me to carry around in my pocket and I do not need a speaker phone. If the primary function of your phone is voice communication, I would highly recommend the Samsung.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have tried many phones and this one is very below average.

Pros:

clarity is supberb (#1 reason I might keep it)

camera is ok, although i could care less

screen is nice but not as fantastic as the sanyo mm5600

ev-do is fantastic and FAST! I use mobile internet often so this is important to me. It is at speeds of DSL.

Cons:

It's the size of a brick

no bluetooth

no speakerphone (Speaker phone, again, is extremely important to me)

can't download AND SAVE ringers from the freeringers website.

ear buds are missing the foam coverings

no holster included.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

aussieboss submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-A890:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I can understand how some might be upset that this phone does not have a speakerphone- it would come in handy for VCAST. That being said, I really think this phone has been harshly underrated.
I owned the A670 (also a great phone) before I got this one. Besides the added feature of EVDO, which I have not gotten to use yet, this phone makes many improvements over Samsung's last offering. The alarm clock now has a snooze button. The phonebook is better to use- its almost as good as the LG interface now. Voice recognition, already great on the A670, is even better on the 890. Not to mention the superior Samsung style and design. Usually I buy Samsung over LG because I just don't like the way LGs look and feel. But in general I prefer LGs software interface. With the 890, I think Samsung is approaching LG with its user friendliness.
If you already own an iPOD so you don't need an MP3 player, I would heartily recommend the Samsung 890. I think in the long run its design will hold up better than the LG VX8000.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It is about CDMA network and Verizon's CON. technology specialists.
When you call Verizon customer support ,
you can exchange your Samsung or LG phone, but it will not help you, because the phones work through CDMA!!!

Of course Verizon or Sprint will never accept that Low Battery life , horrible audio quality of 80% of their phones, ocasional dropped calls and Volume pollution issue (sound disappears even when antenna indicator shows full signal, especially in the evening time, when their network is overloaded, is ALL ISSUES that have to do with their SHTY CDMA network.

A890 costs about $450-$500 without contract.
If you like the Nightmare of CDMA then by all means continue shopping with the most "reliable" Con. Provider .

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

This phone is highly disapointing. I was surprised to see that this phone does not have realtones and the sound quality is awfully poor. On top of that the battery life is terrible and for a phone with a cost of 415.00 you would think it would have at least bluetooth or speakerphone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I had a phone with a speakerphone and mp3 ringtone options before and I didn't even really use it often.

Other than that the phone is great.
It has:

-Email
-A really GREAT Web broswer (if you look in the right section)
-good ringtone quality
-great game quality
-external picture caller ID
-great camera
-and other stuff that other phones have

The design is great and the phone is a decent size, not too big but not small either.

The only problem with this phone is not the phone itself but Verizon. They make you use "get it Now" to purchase ringtones. But soon the updated software for the Datacable will be out and that will solve that problem.

You can upload your own pictures, for free, from your computer by going to the website (http://getitnow.vzwshop.com).

Great phone overally but a little on the pricey side.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

ajs253 submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-A890:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

Bought this phone because of the v-cast and prior experience with the quality of samsung phones. Paid full retail for the phone, which is no small feat. So I expected to get my money's worth, right? Wrong!

Pros: The phone is lightweight and a great size compared to the LG vx 8000. The color screen is vibrant and I like the construction of the phone. That's why I bought the phone.

Cons: The battery life is extremely weak, the software is terrible. I was hoping they would improve on the 670, not diminish or worsen the software. Second, the sound quality of the phone is terrible. They should have tested the 890 and required that it meet the same standard as the 670 or 530 before releasing this phone.
Next the vcast on this phone is choppy and not flowing. I am not sure whether this was a Network problem, or equipment, but I did not encounter this problem with the 8940 or the 8000. The camera on the phone although a 1.3 megapixel camera, the quality of the photographs are hazy and foggy. I tried to correct the problem, but it just kept repeating itself. Additionally, the location of the camera's lens is awkward. Finally, where is the speakerphone? When all the phone's are now coming out with bluetooth and vcast, the least Samsung can do is add a speakerphone to a vcast phone. The bottom line, either get a 670 or if you want a vcast phone get the LG VX8000. It is a huge phone, but the software is great and the phone's features are worth the money you pay, which incidentally, is less than the Samsung. Oh yeah... and it has speakerphone. Initially, I had given the phone a 1.5 rating. Upon concluding this review, I decided it deserved a 0.5. Sorry Samsung, I know you can do better. It's like an Honor student getting a D at something very simple......

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

anspa submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-A890:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

i would have to say that this phone is awesome. it does not have speakerphone or an mp3 player or bluetooth, but so what. its stylish and vcast looks great on it. the reception so far has been great too. the camera is awesome with 1.3 mp and 5 times zoom. compared to the 8000 i would take the size and style over spkrph, or mp3 player. the 8000 has to be the dumbest looking phone out there. the 8940 from playin around with it, is not even worth talking about.

pros.
1.3 mp camera/video
vcast
screen resolution
reception
looks awesome
not too big

cons.
no mp3 player
no speakerphone

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

pterok submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-A890:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I am SOOOOO disappointed in this phone. I initially bought the LG8000 and was eying the A890. Well, I exchanged the 8000 and that was a MISTAKE! I am a huge samsung phone most recently had the 610. There are several things i couldn't get over. Here are the pro's and con's:

pro's-

nice screen
neat animation

cons-
can't personalize the sub led with your own pix.

can't assign different ringer for the text messages. also, can only hold 50 text messages(not enough).

poor speaker lends to inaudible ring tones.

All in all, I was very disappointed and am going back to the LG8000.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

troy14 submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-A890:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Alright so it doesn't have speaker phone, so what? How often do you use speakerphone on your cell? The only time I could think of is in your car or at a home office, but then why not just use a regular phone line? or in your car a headset? The complaints about no speakerphone are getting old it's something you'd go "oo cool" and maybe use once or twice the first few months you had it then stop. Other than that it's a great phone excellent signal, call clearity is the best I've ever had, the camera works fine and has good resolution. And to top it off they even give you a free hands-free kit, now about the blue tooth. Yes it's time to get some blue tooth on verizon phones the one with it is the motorola v-710 and it's a pile so I can see why Verizon stays away from other blue tooth phones but still the need is there to open up and get a few more in the inventory. This Samsung is the best I've used yet out of any Nokia, Samsung, or LG but all reviews are a matter of opinion. Things to keep in mind though, the a-890 is not a tri-mode phone which can hinder it in some cases. However I'm yet to drop a call or have to ask someone to repeat themselves, this phone has excellent clarity, great reception, and unbelievable battery life, I've gone 3 days with the standard battery and my normal usage. Overall this is one of the best non "Smart" (pda) phones Verizon offers and bests the LG VX8000 in weight and performance.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

didalucci submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-A890:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

Once again, I'm disappointed with Samsung CDMA products. The phone is more expensive than the other EVDO-capable phones but offers fewer features...I don't get it. Bluetooth is becoming a standard on most high-end phones. Secondly, no speakerphone - what's the deal with that! I played around with the vx8000, a890 and the Audiovox, and it was evident to me that I would get more bang for my buck with the LG product. Besides, it looks way better. However, the two things I like about the Samsung a890 are its independent voice dialing features and the clever animation; but not enough to buy it.

I think they'll get it right with the Samsung i730!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

zubikov submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-A890:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

the GOOD: Screen res, battery, VCast, size, menus, great call sound quality.

the OK: Camera/video, external buttons, front LCD, memory.

the BAD: NO BLUETOOTH, no speakerphone

--------------------------------------------
It was between the a890 and the VX8000. After I felt both phones in my hand side by side, I knew the choice right away. The VX8000 is a brick. No matter how nice a phone is, if it hardly fits into the pocket of my jeans, I got no use for it. Besides the size, I thought VX8000 is a very decent phone from the half hour that I played with it.

Now on to the a890. This phone is very nicely engineered from all angles. The battery life so far is excellent (have it for 5 days now). The main screen is really sharp. Yeah there's no speakerphone, but I had it on my last phone and ended up using it like 5 times. The V Cast coverage is on and off (since I live in central Jersey), but that was explained to me before the phone was sold. The camera is decent, although does take between 2-3 seconds to start (like a regular digital camera).

The voice quality during a phone call is outstanding, and the reception is an improvement over my last verizon phone (audiovox CDM9500).

However, and this is a big BIG problem for verizon wireless as a company: get the stick out your behind and stop being so damn cheap; give us bluetooth. I know they really increase that bottom line by selling all those ring tones, pictures, games, internet access...etc. But enough is enough, get on the bluetooth boat already.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The LG-VX8000 is much more sophisticated and worth the money.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

SForsyth01 submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-A890:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

This phone would be good if it didn't take forever for the camera to load, and if it had a SPEAKERPHONE!!!!

The sound quality for V-Cast is horrible due to the lack of a good speaker system. And when is Samsung going to realize that people want a speakerphone instead of a cute menu that appeals to kids.

I had this phone for 1 day, as I thought I could live without the speakerphone function (previously a v710 user). But, to my dismay, the sound quality was horrible when I watched V-Cast clips. Went back and got the 8000 and was amazed what a good speakerphone system can do for the V-Cast sound quality. In addition, the MP3 ringtones of the 8000 completely blow away the polyphonic ringtones of this phone.

Conclusion: Don't waste your time with this phone, just buy the VX-8000

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
