It was durable. I had the screen protector always applied. But the phone wasnt protected anywhere else.

It was basically a GSM version of the LG rumor. It was better, because the keys were bigger from what ive seen. The camera was superb and it was probably the best phone that ive owned on cingulars network. Actually I'd put the treo 680p at the top

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

carlos14 submitted this review of the LG F9100:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

ok peoples this phone is not what people make it out to be i 100% agree with rickyg1974 this phone is great it's really firm you can type in contacts with the keyboard. so if your phone "frequently slides open in pocket" it must be defective and take it back for a quick fix!!! if your phone has "Poor earpiece volume" try turning the volume up, smarty pants (ixocean) and when you are on the browser you can type in the address ( maybe you just don't know how to use the phone mynameisnotreal) and if your one of those hi-tech people who NEED mp3, bluetooth, this phone aint for you. and if you don't like small keys get another phone. and OH MY GOODNESS there is no speaker phone, like who gives a rats ass hold the phone to your head like normal people. and if people say this phone has bad reception it's most likely because you live in "FARM TOWN" try moving to the city and you will get great signal. overall this is a GREAT phone don't be fooled by the people who and cellular phone challenged

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It doesn't even have a speaker phone!!

What good is it??

There are MANY other phones I prefer more if I were a regular IM'er. Like the Nokia 6800 or 6820. At least these messaging phones have several features you can use too!

I have had bad luck with every LG phone I've ever used. Except the VX 7000 used on the Verizon network. This is the ONLY phone I would recommend if you were to subscribe to Verizon. It's crystal clear and rarely did I ever drop a call.

I'm now on T-Mobile in Phoenix, AZ and I've had FIVE different phones and T-Mobile here is DROP CALL CITY!! If anyone has a good phone recommendation in my case, please feel free to contact me and share your thoughts.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

rickyg1974 submitted this review of the LG F9100:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

OK folks, enough is enough. I almost didn't buy this phone based on some of misinformation/lies written in reviews about this phone. Here's the my experience with this phone after 4 months:

-Not ONCE has it slid open in my pocket.
-YES YOU CAN CREATE/EDIT CONTACTS USING THE KEYBOARD!!!
-YES, you can lock the keyboard to avoid accidental dialing (and it doesn't unlock with a random keypunch)
-It printed VERY clearly on the phone, in Cingulars ads, in reviews on tech sites, and on LG's site that this is a TEXT MESSAGING phone. If you want a camera/camcorder/mp3 player/bluetooth/blender get another phone and quit your complaining.
-The pre-set volume of the ringer, earpiece and speaker can be increase (read your flippin manuals)
-As I never buy ANY tech hardware when it's first released, I can't speak to the complaints about having to reboot...but I've never had to with my phone (remember, got it 4 mnts ago, the model's been out almost a year now...plenty of time for initial bugs to have been fixed)
-The keyboard DOES have an "@" symbol (and all standard punctuation, for that matter)!!!
-The phone is not a brick. It weighs about as much as any Nokia bar-style phone I've owned in the past.

I've had 4 different LG's now. Was originally very PO'd at ATT/Cingular for hooking up with this company. This phone (and my rock steady G4011) have changed my mind. I use this phone to email co-workers when on the road (NOTE: sending text to an email is cheaper than data service with a blackberry or sidekick), text/IM with friends, record thoughts after client meetings, and have crystal clear phone calls with my friends and family.

I have an iPod and don't need a camera phone so this phone does EVERYTHING I need it to do. It's the first phone I've had that gets a strong signal in Chicago's subways.

The bottom line is this: make a list of what you need (and want) in a cell. Do your research (about.com has a wonderful tools that matches your needs to various phones).

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

So many bad things were said about this phone. Let me just say this, Ive owned a razor(too wide), a s710a(too heavy), a e317 and I still own a z500a. This phone is doing everything I want it to do. The main reason I bought this phone is for the keyboard. During the course of a day I send a lot of text to my wife at work so I needed this feature. Although this phone has no camera its a great phone. The screen is great, its easy to use, I have cingular in NJ and the reception is perfect.
I also have the data cable kit so Im sending all kinds of goodies to the phone. Anyway overall its a great phone if your not looking for a camera or video features. Ive had it for a month now and Im happy:)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The motorola flips which doesn't look really good at all. The LG model used better color and the size is good to. The ringer is loud and screen is great. Even though LG copied motorola they made it a lot better then motorola could ever make. In the end LG beats motorola at F9100/a636

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

WirelessWorld submitted this review of the LG F9100:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

The phone audio is good. The text keyboard is good, better with smaller thumbs. The only negative thing I find is the keyboard lock. When I lock it and set it down, after 30 minutes or so, with the screen blank, I can hit the C button (Clear) and the phone will become unlocked. This happens at random, and is only mildly predictable. Cingular did replace the phone, but the replacement does the same thing too.

Text messaging works well with AIM and Yahoo. ICQ works, but I haven't used it in conversation yet.

I have yet to use the Cingular CW chat, so I cannot speak for it.

I cannot locate the software version on the phone in the menus, nor on the label under the battery so I cannot note the version. When the box is handy, I will see if it is on there.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Hello Moto submitted this review of the LG F9100:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

Pros of this phone is the QWERTY keyboard and that's it. It isn't a BAD phone, but for someone who needs more performance, this phone is not worth it. The screen made for slow response time between menus. The text keyboard could only be used for IM, text and inputting phone book entries, it would have been nice to use it while on the web. I will say the browser was faster than expected, but again the screen couldn't keep up. The slide was to sensitive for me. With just a little movement while talking on it would cause it to try and open.
If you are primarily wanting to text and im, this is a good little phone. If you are used to more advance features like Bluetooth, mp3 ringtones, advance mms, don't go with this phone, you will be disappointed.
Also, the speaker is placed to far down to hear clearly. I traveled from south Mississippi to San Antonio, TX and this was by far the worst phone for hearing people. I bought an earbud to see if that would help and it did, but, either by design or defect the plug was loose... I took it back after having it for 4 days... I'll keep my v551 for now.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Wavetyler submitted this review of the LG F9100:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

Out of the box the phone doesn't look that bad. The screen is sharp, and the phone is laid out well. However, as you have probably noticed in reading these reviews, when you get into it the features are very, very lacking. I was this close (-|-) to sending it back the very next day. But, knowing that new cell-phones are coming out almost as fast as Paris Hilton videos, I decided to wait and tinker with it to see what fun things I could do to it.

(* warning some mods will likely void your warranty) Changing the face-plate wasn't an easy task, as the phone has to be completely taken apart just to get to the face-plate screws. This can take awhile but (in my experience) it has a very interesting side-effect.

When putting it back together, I was able to adjust the screws on the slider giving it a much more solid feel. It no longer slides open by itself in my pocket or when just trying to talk with it. Which, at least for now, solves that problem.

JAVA 2.0
I just got the data-cable and have downloaded a ton of JAVA midlets to play with, so that may be fun.

Otherwise, I'm using the phone, and it's ok till my next one..which should be soon...

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mynameisnotreal submitted this review of the LG F9100:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

Well, it was a surprise the first time I wanted to save someone phone number and I slid open the keyboard to enter all the information. The phone barked at me "Keyboard not supported! Please close slide!" Eh? You mean I have to enter the name and other info using the numeric keys!? But I have a full QWERTY keyboard right here! No such luck; the keyboard is ONLY for for messaging as far as LG is concerned. There is a way around it, but it's pretty sad that you have to save the info the edit it later.

And I still have yet to get Yahoo to work on this phone. It's just as easy to tell your messenger to send SMSs to your phone.

When you wish to browse the web, you can ONLY use the numeric keypad. Try typing in 30 characters or so, making one mistake, then finding out there is no backspace on the keypad.

Also, you periodically need to 'reboot' the phone as it seems to be as reliable as many Microsoft products. I never knew you could bluescreen a phone...

And yes, it has all the bells and whistles, calculator, alarm and such like. But they are buried under about two tons of menus, which are hard to navigate and are uncustomizable.

Poor planning on the part of LG abounds in this phone. I weep for my long-lost Nokia. It was simple and much better than this phone. Why, oh why, did AT&T get absorbed by the blob that is ? Alas...

And you know that keyboard? It doesn't have the '@' on it. Good thing no one uses that useless symbol these days...

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

MisterWong submitted this review of the LG F9100:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I love using this phone, especially the QWERTY board. However, not every text input field can use the QWERTY! This is super annoying, almost as much as typing an UNDERSCORE. Sometimes you'd have to close the slide, press *, open the slide, and then navigate through the grid of symbols to the _ or ' or any number of common symbols not found on the QWERTY. I do not have the problem many others have of it coming open in my pocket. At least it fits in my pocket, unlike many other unwieldy QWERTY phones. I'd say my favorite part is quickly sending email to and from the device. I did not have to pay anything for the phone when I signed up for a 2 year contract with cingular. I used to use an LG VX3100L from Verizon, so the F9100 seems like a Ferrari compared to my old phone. Overall I am very pleased with the phone and it's capabilities. Why no camera?!? is my only gripe.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The only thing you get is a keyboard, but with predictive text i find it unnecassary.IM client hardly works.Dont buy

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

missthang submitted this review of the LG F9100:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

someone switched to cingular from t-mobile, when the sidekick is 300 times better than this? 8-| I just switched from cingular to t-mobile and am very, very happy.

the keyboard of the f9100 is awkward and kind of dumb to have the original keys somewhat useless when the other keyboard slides out. the screen is strange. services aren't as reliable as you think.

plus I use data more than I use my phone. I get unlimited data with the sidekick and can stay in touch with AOL, YAHOO IM (including for 2 accounts, one via sms and other directly from mobile application).

I was paying 49.99 (50.00) with cingular w/out data, but with t-mobile, am just paying 59.99 (60.00) with 900 anytime minutes with family plan and elderly dad who rarely uses phone, and unlimited data and a full color web browser, which makes being out and about convenient for work.

with t-mobile, I also love having my callers hear a more profesional phone system with caller tunes. callers think they're calling an actual company's phone system. because you can program a message that says "Please hold (name) will be with you shortly", then the hold music, while you hear a ring on your end.

kind of sucks that t-mobile is getting bad press from paris hilton's braindead mistake. because I can't see a hacker breaking into t-mobile just to post her information, esp. given all her ex's seems to do her wrong (release sex video, beat her, break into her house, dog disappears, etc., etc.). if a hacker really broke in, rest assured more than paris' info would have been released.

overall the f9100 wasn't enough to make me stay with cingular, and I love the "makes sense" features of the sidekick and t-mobile's costs. right now the f9100 is kind of like the poor man's sidekick. oh well...

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Spawne32 submitted this review of the LG F9100:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I just picked this phone up the day it was released, we swtiched from tmobile to cingular and i was looking for something with a qwerty keyboard. I love the design of the phone, not only does it make a great cell phone for talking, the keyboard isn't awkward to use, and hides nicely with the slide out design. It also gets great reception with the internal antenna which i was surprised to see.

PROS

*Innovative slide design
*Decent screen brightness and resolution
*Nice QWERTY keypad, firm and responsive
*Friendly menu system
*Loud ringer
*Great price of 100 dollars from cingular, 150 in store with 50 dollar mail in rebate

CONS

*Poor slide clasp (frequently slides open in pocket)
*Limited use of screen (for menu function) with slide open
*Only stores up to 30 Screen names for instant messenging
*Not very customizable, no option to change font size, face, or color.

As IXOCEAN said in his review "I was very excited to be among the first to use this phone, but quickly grew tired of the slide coming open at random and the 'cheap and dated' look of the screen. One has to wonder why, with such a capable screen, LG continues to use the equivalent of Courier font style for the soft-key indicators on the standby screen. The limitations of the screen while the slide is open also makes one ponder the reason for this shortcoming. Clearly it is a software deal and could be addressed with a revision" and i agree totally. But for 100 dollars im really pleased, with the improvements everyone here has mentioned i would gladly pay up to 200 for a improved version of this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

ixocean submitted this review of the LG F9100:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

As with many consumer products these days, some of the retail cost is more attributable to the marketing hype than the actual quality/feature set contained within the device, the LG F9100 is no exception. The phone was purchased (by me) for use on Cingular and will be returned to them after about two weeks of use, to be exchanged for the Moto a630 or SE s710a.

PRO:
*Innovative slide design
*Decent screen brightness and resolution
*Nice QWERTY keypad, firm and responsive
*Friendly menu system
*Loud ringer

CON:
*Poor slide clasp (frequently slides open in pocket)
*Dated menu system; font choice makes the screen appear cheap
*Poor earpiece volume
*Limited use of screen (for menu function) with slide open

I was very excited to be among the first to use this phone, but quickly grew tired of the slide coming open at random and the 'cheap and dated' look of the screen. One has to wonder why, with such a capable screen, LG continues to use the equivalent of Courier font style for the softkey indicators on the standby screen. The limitations of the screen while the slide is open also makes one ponder the reason for this shortcoming. Clearly it is a software deal and could be addressed with a revision, but considering Cingular's knack for destroying a completely stable OS with an update, I would stretch to say they'd be better off to leave well enough alone.

FWIW, the phone would get much higher rank from me at the sub-$80 price range, but for the $150+ realm you begin to feel sore in the backside.

NEXT!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It is for I.M. ONLY !Speaking of the slide out, it annoyed me by slipping in and out while making calls. No speaker phone. No choice to turn off the ringer. A few dropped calls. I don't intend to keep this phone any longer to find more common sense features that are
"not supported".

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
