Question is: will it be as good as this one?

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Bargin_Wizard submitted this review of the HP iPAQ hw6510 / hw6515:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I have read everyones reviews and see that this phone / PDA has shared issues. This unit reboots, make calls on it's own, locks up all the time requiring a reboot, and is not capable of multitasking. Hit the send button and your signal reduces. There are some very good features but are killed with the major problem issues. I did flash the ROm with HP's upgrade ROM flash which did absolutely nothing different for the phone except give it a new version number. All the same issues continue and some where out there on the web I read that the ROM upgrade hard codes a virus on the phone which causes the phone to slowly but surely worsen, then you have to flash the ROM again to start over only to have the same issues progressively return. Me and this phone have a love / hate relationship. One day this phone will be used to to hold my fishing bait at the bottom of the river! Good luck to all those who have this phone and anyone who is suckered into buying it on Ebay. I was lucky or unlucky, as a friend of mine works for Cingular and gave it to me... now I know why he was so kind. Plans to buy a HTC 8125 or newer (unlocked) as I have IMMIX Wireless and have to use unlocked phones.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

IMSpock submitted this review of the HP iPAQ hw6510 / hw6515:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

I've had this POS for about a year now. I paid about $400.00 for it NEW on EBay. During this time I have had to put up with "SIMLOCK" in which a box comes up and ask's for a "simlock code" that it wont allow you to enter! (reboot fixes this temporarily). There does not appear to be a cause for this, and HP was NO HELP!
And for the last few months it just started randomly SHUTTING OFF! I finally figured out that the back cover of the phone (which covers the battery) wasn't closing quite all the way. I had to really press hard to get it to "seal" properly.
That worked for awhile, but then the shut off's continued. My next trick was to put folded pieces of scrap paper INSIDE between the battery and the cover as the battery was "loose" and the proper connection was not being made. This has worked for the most part.
It is "renewal time" as my Cingular contract is almost up and I will now shop for a TREO 680.
Overall, the Window's OS hasn't been too bad, web surfing is rather slow on Cingular's EDGE system. I'm not crazy about "Outlook" but am getting used to it. (I like Palm's OS better)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I've been using this phone/PDA for about a year now.

Pros
-Rugged - Dropped numerous times.
-PDA features
-Stability - Much better than my Treo 600/650. I don't have to reboot it daily.
-Internet Explorer - Better than the Treo
-Call Quality - Good Call quality.
-Bluetooth - Actually works.

Cons
-Very low volume. Without a headset - too low to hear.
-Size - Not a fan of the size/weight.

Overall - Not a bad phone/PDA. One the ruggedness factor - It gets a 10 from me. Call quality is good, as long as your using a headset.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I purchased the phone in Feb of this year, I have had it exchanged 3x's due to service related issues...all repeated here in the forum. Dropped calls, low volume, involuntary shut off, low memory and slow speeds at best. One of it most basic functions as a cell phone is it's worst ability. I can go on for a while with complaints however I will spare everyone. I warn anyone considering this phone, beware! For those who have had success with it, either they are not using it or just plain luck that they got "the good one". I have had my fill, I am switching to the 8125....free of charge. From what I have read, that is what this phone was intended to be and more. Good Luck fellow PDA 'ers.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

BYN_LO_SELN_HI submitted this review of the HP iPAQ hw6510 / hw6515:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Due to such negative reviews, I decided to interject my two cents in just to even up the score, you could say.

I have had this phone for about a year. I bought it from overseas, and I must admit that I got a HECK of a deal on mine. So I can see how some could be resentful of this little pda/phone if they had paid full price. But I don't reeally think it has been bad at all. Truthfully, I REALLY like it. I'm not saying that it doesn't have it's little quirks that make me want to chuck it through the wall every once in a while...but for the most part, my daily use has been pleasant! :) If you are looking for a FANTASTIC pda that you can make calls on, check your email, keep organized, and get online for whatever reason...LOOK NO FURTHER. It really is a nice combo of all these things.

PROS:
1- Mobile internet usage anywhere! If you have signal, you can get online. And I love the Windows based programming. I had a Blackbeery previously and it drove me CRAZY!! I basically needed a super small laptop for my business and this is it! And very, very rarely have I had a problem with reception, and that is in the Midwest! When Cingular says "raising the bar", they mean it.
2- Phone function was pretty decent, I never had any less signal in comparison to anyone else that was in the nearby vicinity. And battery life isn't too bad either, even better if you buy the extended battery!

CONS:

1- My phone will sometimes just power off for no apparent reason....BUT (smiling sheepishly) that could, maybe, just possibly be from the frequent abrupt collisions with the pavement that my ipaq has encountered! :) Moral of the story: Buy insurance!
2- No wifi. But they did update the new ipaq by adding this feature, so I am excited to purchase the newer version!

Overall, I liked mine. I would not have paid full price, but if you can get a deal it is worth carrying! Just compare with the Q, reviews on it were a little disturbing! This is one of the better pda phones out now.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

MarketingDude submitted this review of the HP iPAQ hw6510 / hw6515:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

My comments on this device are based on two weeks of very frustrating experience. Just trying to get this thing to perform basic functions is an exercise in futility. Comments are divided into two core uses: PHONE and PDA

PHONE
Consistently has a weaker signal than my previous mobile phone (an old LG VX4700). With the LG phone I was with Verizon; the HP 6515 service is through Cingular; both in Houston, TX. Connection with Motorola Bluetooth headset seems to provide garbled sound. Speaker built into the HP 6515 unit cannot be adjusted up to adequate volume making it very difficult to hear callers. Does not have voice dialing, so hands-free usage is pointless. Does not seem to be able to interface with standard push-button phone response systems such as my office voicemail system. User interface is counter-intuitive and difficult to navigate. Will sometimes spontaneously reboot. Comes with a lousy holster that frequently jumps off my belt and onto the floor. A monkey could have developed a better holster. I just spent $30 online getting a better holster.

PDA
Windows user interface is horrible. Online help is even worse. Setting up a Bluetooth connection to my PC is convoluted and yields inconsistent results. Even after repeatedly setting up the PDA and PC as paired devices, the PDA loses the pairing definition several times per week and I have to start all over again.

Best feature: Solitaire.

Bottom Line: HP and Microsoft should be ashamed to be associated with this clunky, unreliable, and difficult device. I can't believe I am stuck with this thing for two years. Save your money.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mdexter submitted this review of the HP iPAQ hw6510 / hw6515:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

The nicest thing about this phone is the built in games, to which they only give you 2.

I hate this phone. The previous review was dead on. As soon as you hit send the bars drop.

I love the plastic shield when I am on a call as it keeps my face away from the screen. BUT, when I try to make a call and the pop-up message appears telling me my data connection is not working I get irritated. The phone forces you to lift the plastic screen and press ok. This pop-up even appears often during dialing a phone number, forcing you to start all over again.

This phone makes me want to kill my TV everytime I see the "Fewest dropped calls" commercial.

HP what is up with the 6900 model. Are you taking long enough to get it tested and released?

Oh yeah that's right, if it is anything near as aweful as the 6500 you may as well discontinue it now.

Peace.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

kaboom91 submitted this review of the HP iPAQ hw6510 / hw6515:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

I have had this phone since it was released. The only reason I still have it is the gps navigation capability. I also like the SD card slot(poor location on phone) which they foolishly removed in favor of the more expensive mini-SD card on the new model. The ear piece speaker volume is very inadequate. The Treo has an extremely superior shape and design. The 6515 is to thin and too wide. In addition the buttons on the HP are small, rounded, and hard, which make typing much more difficult than the Treo. I have had to send the unit back for repairs twice. While I admit I am probably exceptionally hard on electronics I do not feel this phone even approaches the durability of a "phone". Battery life is adequate, but by no means spectacular. Cellular reception is poor compared to other phones. Oh, one good thing about this phone is that when you call HP you get to speak with there business technical support center based in Canada, so the technical support representatives can actually speak understandable English.

Conclusion - I would not recommend this phone to anyone who does not really want/require gps navigation. Otherwise, there are many superior alternatives.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

ashman submitted this review of the HP iPAQ hw6510 / hw6515:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I had a Treo 600 in the past as well as a SE P800, so I am not new to PDA style phones. I had been using a blackberry 7290 which did its job well, but if your company is not using a BB enterprise server, you are only using a very small percentage of what your BB is capable of. I wanted to fully sync with our exchange server, and be able to open all attachments, and more. This Ipaq does it all for me and then some. Sure the battery life is brutal, but thats nothing new in the world of cell phones, get an extended battery or a car charger, deal with it. You have to learn to live with the idiosyncrasies because every device has them, nothing is perfect. I have read about the replacement for this model and frankly the built in wi fi, faster processor and WM 5 don't mean a lot to me. I would rather use WM 2003 SE which is stable rather then WM5 which is still relatively new and requires more horsepower to run. Do your research if you want a PDA phone, there are lot of them out there, and you have to know your needs first before finding the device thats right for you. For me, this has all I need. I am still getting used to it, but with Microsoft voice command you can voice dial contacts, blue tooth works like a charm and active sync makes this more valuable then my blackberry was.

AM

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have been a Nokia lover for years, and have also tired Moto's, HTC's 8125, and the Treo 650. With that being said, to qualify my experience, I am NOT an expert, just a well educated and experienced cell phone user. This is a GREAT DEVICE!!

Pros:

Great display-(learn to live with 240 x 240, it is gorgeous)
Very capable OS-Windows Mobile 2003-SE
Very good RF, very few can beat Nokia!
Decent camera, not as good as Nokia.
PIM-This is why I bought this phone***
I need a Windows based device to receive my e-mail and use Outlook 24/7. That is what makes this device a GREAT all-in-one!!
Bluetooth works great with Moto and Plantronics headsets.
Very sturdy and well built-Solid Phone!

I would have given it a 5, except for this:

Cons:

Battery life could be better
Should come with Handy Switcher or Magic Button.
HP needs to upgrade their internal antenna to stay in contention with Nokia!

I paid $399 for mine and I am very happy with it overall.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Solarsurge submitted this review of the HP iPAQ hw6510 / hw6515:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I have been a Cingular rep for 10 years now and I've seen the best and worst of all brands. This one here is good for some, bad for most. Here's my opinion of it:

Pros:
Awesome for PDA functionality.
Great Internet functionality.
Great 1.3 megapixel camera.
2 Memory Card Slots - good storage capacity.
Windows Media Player - plays all media types.
Stereo Headset in box is awesome quality.
Solitaire on the go!! (LOL)
GPS is great on this device.

Cons:
EXTREMELY slow power on time.
Battery Life is horrible
Bad Phone Reception on Cingular - signal drops 2 bars as soon as you press the "Talk" key.
Numeric buttons often don't play nicely with automated phone systems.
Protective cover is a nuisance to flip open & closed to access screen with the stylus.
Battery Cover.
Phone often drops calls and gives "SIM Locked" message for no reason what-so-ever, forcing me to take battery in and out to fix it.

Conclusion:
PDA and data functions work very well on this device, but 2 cups and string would probably get better phone reception. I'd recommend the Cingular 8125 hands down over this device.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It boasts some heavy hitting features like GPS navigation (the program costs 130 dollars not to mention the maps), EDGE network speeds (still as slow as the GPRS) and that it is the PDA of all PDA's. Well, I have had this phone for two months and here recently the phone shuts off for no reason. It simply powers off and remains off until you power it back on and it resets itself. The audio quality is sub par as well. To actually hear you need to use the Bluetooth headset. The only good thing about this phone is the camera and the extra expansion slots. Other than that stick with your own phone of choice and hopefully it isn't this one. I am so disappointed that I am going to take my back and get something that actually works.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

greasyspoon submitted this review of the HP iPAQ hw6510 / hw6515:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

What if there is no such thing as a Treo killer? Ok, lets pretend for a minute that nothing will ever kill the Treo. Because I really believe nothing ever will. The treo does email, phone, calendar, contacts, and web really well in a great form factor. There are a lot of people who think those few things are sufficient.

But, what about us folks who want more from our smart-phone? Then the HW6515 is your device. It takes all the things that make the Treo great and builds upon them and adds several things:

Pros:
-Excellent Quality camera 1.3mp

-Works better with bluetooth than treo. The Treo only reaches about 10ft, while the HP reaches 30 feet.

-Multitasks-Its great having multiple programs open at the same time

-2 memory card slots (supposedly both are SDIO) I have 3Gb on mine, so I ditched the iPod.

-GPS "turn left in 100 feet" Really cool.

-Native PDF support The Treo requires a paid upgrade to 8.x to get PDF support. Although, docs-to-go does do a better job of rendering PDF's than the HP.

-EDGE

-Great huge screen.

-Renders web pages perfectly

-With SDIO slot

Cons:

-Nasty battery life: 1 day max.

-has a larger battery option, but it makes the HP weigh 2x as much (uhhh...Not!)

-Its not a Treo-Ha, Ha...But who cares?

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I was tossing between this one and the 8125, and i chose this one because of it's bigger screen, and GPS ability. Bluetooth works pretty good. My mpx220 had a better connection time, but this one has the A2DP feature that allows you to use stereo bluetooth headphones to listen to music. Battery life is awesome, and EDGE is great. I also love the fact that is has BOTH mini and regular SD slots in it. OVerall a great phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

They quickly replaced it and this one lasted about 30days before we started to get a 'network key' glitch again not user error. 3 months later we still have no fix for this and now our IPAQ6515a has stopped sending emails altogether. More 10s of hours on the phone w/ HP and god forbid you have to call Cingular. Today alone I spent 2 full hours on hold and disconnected 3x and still have no resolution except HP saying "gee it shouldn't do that!" and cingular's warranty department saying "Data resolution handles exchanges and Data resolution department saying "we have NOTHING to do with exchanges" then getting disconnected after being on hold again for 45 min. Ridiculous. Stick w/ a Blackberry.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

DM23AUM submitted this review of the HP iPAQ hw6510 / hw6515:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

First let me advise that this is my first PDA phone. I work for Cingular and decided to get a PDA for the data capability. Before that my primary device was the V3. I was unsure if I would use the numerous functions that the HP 6515 had to offer, but when I got the device I knew I made a great choice. This phone is amazing. The display is large and the smoke plastic display cover is sleek looking and it is essential. The Windows interface is surprisingly easy to navigate, and I can't wait to get my SD and mini SD cards to cram this unit with Mp3, music videos, and well, with space for 6 gigs, just about anything else I want to store on it. I have tried out the Treo 650, and the HP is far superior. Battery life is sufficient enough that I make it through the day fine. The docking cradle and software that links to your PC is simple to set up. I really like the calendar. It is easy to use and plan out multiple tasks. Im a guy so I wont be using the GPS because I never get lost =). File transfers from PC to phone are easy, and just in general the phone far surpassed my expectations.

PROS:

1)Display is large, and bright.
2)Overall size is thin and compact.
3)The screen cover is great.
4)Docking cradle and software is user friendly.
5)Windows OS...Media Player 10.
6)Good Phone reception (Montgomery, AL).
7)Internet Explorer.
8)Pocket Excel/Word = Useful.
9)Stereo Headphones.
10)Keyboard is nice, ergonomic.
11)Everyone asks about it.

CONS:
1)Why can't HP throw in a small SD card?
2)It would be nice to minimize things to a toolbar.
3)Takes full attention to operate most features.
4)Every now and then it will freeze while on internet and multi-tasking.
5)HP's website is so not user friendly.
6)You have to turn the phone sideways to use the camera which makes no sense whatsoever.
7) MobiTV doesn't support it yet =(
8)A leather case would have been nice as opposed to the huge plasic holster.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

equinox_21 submitted this review of the HP iPAQ hw6510 / hw6515:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

I was looking for a compact all in one that could perform all the daily functions and portability my laptop could without the weight and more. I like to listen to mp3's but didn't want to buy an Ipod, stereo headphones are not very loud neither is the speaker, sound quality is not the greatest. The camera is not very sharp, nor is video. Keypad is all thumbs, I didn't mind it too much but I wouldn't want to type an essay with it. Stylus was nice but it was a bit annoying to have to switch back and forth from keypad and stylus a third hand would come in handy. Screen quality is good but a little smaller than other models. The GPS is one of the main features I bought this device for. I work in transport and ms streets and trips has become a useful tool. Pocket streets is lacking in the functionality of the full version, size of the screen could be a factor as well but I was not impressed with the interface. On the communications and organizer side of this I would have to give the iPAQ strong ratings. Asides from the phone interface which is not incredibly impressive the pda aspect is excellent! Appointments, and contact lists are interactive and interconnected. Multi tasking is good too, the environment is stable and free from crashing(lock-ups). My general impression of these type of devices palm alike is if you've absolutely got to have one then the HP is a great choice in comparison with what is on the market, but If you want a device that is truly "ALL in ONE this isn't it yet nor is anything else that is being offered on the market in this category for the time being. I'll just wait for the next generation of these devices to come out. I would have probably kept the device for half the price.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
