FCC Rules Spectrum Sale to Proceed

The FCC on Wednesday officially denied a request from a large wireless industry trade group to put off a much-delayed sale of valuable airwaves presently used by television broadcasters. The Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) had asked the FCC to delay the June 19 sale because of uncertainty surrounding when the airwaves would be available, and concerns about bidding procedures. The spectrum in question is in the 700 MHz band, which is slated to be vacated by television broadcasters during the transition to digital television.
