Spectrum Auction To Continue Without Wireless Phone Companies

The FCC said today that some 128 bidders have qualified to participate in the June 19 auction of 758 wireless licenses in the lower 700 MHz band, covering rural areas. The larger mobile telephone carriers like Verizon Wireless and Cingular have said they would not participate in these sales, in part because of the uncertainty of when the airwaves would actually be available, and because another auction of disputed wireless licenses has not been resolved.
