Virgin Mobile to Launch on Sunday

(updated) Virgin Mobile USA announced this morning that it will launch its service on Sunday in Sacramento, Calif., and Columbus, Ohio, and have nationwide availability in late July. The company, a 50/50 joint venture between Sprint PCS and Virgin Group, will be targeting 13- to 25-year-olds. Virgin's prepaid pricing scheme charges 25 cents per minute for the first 10 minutes of usage per day, and 10 cents per minute after 10 minutes. The service will work only on the Sprint PCS network; no roaming coverage is offered. The company initially will offer the Kyocera 2119 and 2255 handsets. Retailers that will be stocking Virgin Mobile phones and prepaid cards include Best Buy, Circuit City, Media Play, Sam Goody, Target and Virgin Megastores.
