WorldCom and Cingular on Wednesday reached a tentative agreement to settle their dispute involving the fate of 300,000 WorldCom Wireless customers. The customers currently use the Cingular network under a reseller agreement between the two companies. At the heart of the dispute is the legality of text messages sent to the customers in question, by Cingular, encouraging them to switch from WorldCom to Cingular. The messages may have violated a reseller agreemwnt, which may or may not have been in place at the time WorldCom filed for bankruptcy. The new deal is not final until certain parties involved in the bankruptcy proceedings have had a chance to review and approve the terms. A judge has given all such interested parties until noon Friday to file objections.
