Judge Dismisses Cell-Phone Cancer Case

A federal judge ruled today that plaintiffs in a massive lawsuit claiming cell phones cause cancer didn't provide enough evidence to proceed in the courts. The suit originally was filed in Dec. 2000 by Dr. Christopher Newman and his wife, and claimed Newman's brain cancer was caused by his cell phone. The Newman case worried the wireless industry because it was the first such case to have a deep pockets sponsor - Pete Angelos, who waged successful legal wars against asbestos and Big Tobacco. The case named Motorola and CTIA as defendants, among several others.
