Trimble has launched a new, high-accuracy location solution for phones based on Qualcomm's top-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 888 chips. Trimble's RTX GNSS technology provides correction services that improve the accuracy of location data from GPS and other location data sources.

AT&T is the first US carrier to launch location-based routing of 911 emergency calls to the appropriate call centers on a nationwide basis. Previously, 911 calls were routed to call centers based on the cell tower location, and then a more precise phone location transmitted to that call center.

Google is merging its two video-calling platforms into one new service called Google Meet. On phones, the Google Duo app will be renamed Google Meet later this year, and will gain a variety of new features from the existing Meet platform.

New York's MTA has announced a ten-year plan to expand cellular service to all 418 miles of subway tunnels in New York City. The project is a partnership with Transit Wireless, which already provides cellular and Wi-Fi service at all 281 underground stations .

T-Mobile and SpaceX today announced a partnership to provide 100% coverage across the US and "vast" parts of oceans using SpaceX's next generation of Starlink satellites, which will be able to connect directly to existing cell phones. The service will use a dedicated "small slice" of the PCS band (the G block of band 25, which is 1910–1915 MHz for uplink and 1990–1995 MHz for downlink).
