Nokia Announces Messaging Phone for U.S. with BlackBerry Support

Nokia today unveiled a U.S. version of the new Nokia 6800 messaging phone. The device is the size and shape of a conventional cell phone, and unfolds to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. The device operates on GSM/GPRS 850/1900 networks in North America. The device will initially support SMS, MMS, and POP3/IMAP4 email. During the second half of 2003, the phone will also include support for RIM BlackBerry e-mail. The phone sports a color display, and supports Java, SyncML, XHTML, and an optional camera accessory. Shipments are expected to begin during the second quarter of 2003.
